Nvidia Shield Android TV - a review after 2 days use
Hello all,
After two days with an Nvidia Shield Android TV , there are many pluses and minuses, but over all, it has BY FAR the best hardware of any android based box on the market... no question at all about that, but there are some pluses and minuses. Here are the ones that affected me and my needs using the box:
PLUSES
- amazing smoothness in interface - no jerky, delays etc at all
- superb playback of all media, smoother than any box I have seen
- 192khz 24 bit audio output (kodi and mxplayer but I am not sure if they are able to output at that HD rate)
- very well built, sexy touch activated standby button
- very easy to get up and running with controller etc
- shield game streaming service is flawless, fast, smooth, HD
- gaming controller is high quality, has a microphone for voice input and a headphone socket, which work well.
- Voice search within Play Music for artist or track works very well, extremely fast.
- playing Flash-based websites like TennisTV.com etc on Dolphin in Desktop mode is way better than any other box I have tried (and I have tried MANY) It seems to play back as well as my desktop PC.
MINUSES
- have to sideload many apps you may want, like TED, BBC iPlayer, IMDB, Spotify, Movie Mate etc.. even Chrome Browser - but relatively easy to work around using APK Extractor to get APK's from your phone, and Chainfire's sideload launcher.
- no up front display of non-Android TV specific apps
- no recent apps
- no way to get to "now playing" with some apps like Spotify if you had returned home, unless its a leanback app
- no notifications
- no mouse on desktop, backpace key on keyboard not working as backspace but as left mouse click
- Keyboard is USA only, so UK users have to know, for example, that " and @ have swopped places
- voice search from the home screen does not find music artists on google play music or spotify, but only youtube... so "play van morrison" will play a track from youtube, and not from the 25 van morrison albums I have already uploaded to Play Music.
- my tv keeps on cropping a lot off the screen, there is no way to adjust the screen crop size, to reduce size so it fits better on my screen... I can adjust my screen but that is a hassle.
- very little customisation, settings limited too.
There is at least one NON-Android TV ROM for this device, so you can fix almost all of those Minuses, and you can run it using Squarehome or NovaLauncher or whatever you like, but I am not sure I actually NEED to customise the box. Personally I use it for Kodi, Spotify, Play Music, TuneIn Radio, Youtube, Movie Mate, all of which works fine... so for the moment, I am not rooting the box, and am adjusting my expectations and enjoying what works fantastically well, pretty much everything.
This is FAR and away the best box I have ever had, goodbye Tronsmart Drako, Minix Neo X8H+ etc, this is WAY beyond. At some point I may change to plain android, but so far I am fine with a couple of extra steps to be able to enjoy the voice input and superb power and playback capabilities.

Fix for freeze at "working" or "pause" in any video/live tv
Hi there. I've seen many people have this problem but I can't get a way to fix it. Whenever i play my live tv channels or any local/online video, kodi either gets stuck infinitely on "working" before the video or, once it loads, stucks on "loading" / "busy" and the only way to do anything is by closing kodi and opening it again (using kodi 15 rc2 isengard and skin rapier 8.1.3) also if i pause a video, it will "hang" on the pause overlay and it will never disappear, having to close n open kodi again. The thing is that if i click back or other key on my remote i hear the kodi sounds, but there is no response from the program. Any ideas? Any help will be greatly appreciated!! The STB screen shows 'UseeTV'
Since a couple of days our internet/TV/telephone has been replaced from ADSL/Satellite/Copper by a 'triple play' GPON fiber system.
For television, there is a STB (ZTE ZXV10 b700v5) connected vla LAN to the internet router. It runs on a dedicated port with its own VLAN settings.
Even though the STB is modern nice box I'd like to replace it with a Raspberry Pi 2 running Kodi. I've installed OpenELEC-RPi2.arm-5.95.2
I've entered the settings page of the STB and found this information:
FWIW, the service includes live and VOD, but I'm only interested in the Live TV part.
I'm not really looking for a step by step howto, but it would be nice that somebody can tell me
- whether s there a way to get this directly on Kodi (and if not, which distribution could)
- if so, whether a Raspberry Pi 2 is sufficient to achieve this, if not, whether there is hardware which is
- maybe point out the name of some add-ons which I have to take a look at.

Transparency on android
I have tried several skins until I stumble on transparency which I loved from the beginning for its beauty and simplicity.
On trying to tailor to my needs I came to two problems for which I need your help.
1. Subtitles manual search gone?? Is this function available?
2. When I try to insert an image as background I only get black screen. Image is downloaded on downloads file.
For info system is on M8 android box.

Sending messages from Kodi to Kore
Hello!
This is my first time working with Kore and Kodi and I'm doing a little modification for Kore and I had a question about Kodi-Kore interaction.
Suppose I have a RadioGroup menu on Kore where each button activates a script in Kodi and I have the same menu on the Kodi interface. Thus when I press the button on Kore it changes the selected option on Kodi, but is there a way to press the button on Kodi and have it synchronise with Kore? Is there a way to send information to Kore from Kodi and have it listen to it? I'm not sure at all about how to do this, thus any help is appreciated.

Exit never works

MakeMKV skipping
not sure if this is the correct place to post this but i have a few DVDs and used MakeMKV to just keep the movie only. when i play anything created from MakeMKV on the Openelec kodi, i get skipping of both audio and video. not sure if i should post this on MakeMKV forum but thought i would start here since it only happens on Kodi. the videos run fine on windows with videolan and work fine on my smart tv itself using dlna. if i convert the file using handbrake or MeGui it works fine. this is the only playback issues i have had, dont have a problem with 1080p 10gb movies and 3d movies all in mkv.

Always On Top
Hi I am using Kodi on my PC. I like to multi task while watching Kodi. So I will pause Kodi and open other windows. But I can't minimize Kodi or keep it from popping up when switching between windows. This is especially annoying if one of the other windows is smaller, such as a download window. Is there anyway to fix this?

Kodi In My Kitchen
So, to sum it up, I got the Nexus 7 2nd Gen when in school and it was great for looking things up, reviewing scripts and lots of stuff. Since leaving school and working I just about only use my phone or a computer/laptop. I wanted to put the tablet into service somewhere but not have to pull out wires and such.
So I've set it up on a mount in my kitchen, with Qi wireless induction charger fit behind it. I can pop it in and out of the mount and it charges without needing to disconnect anything. Clock, alarms, Kodi, recipes or anything else I could need right on my cabinet door. Not the grandest Kodi setup but it's nothing to be ashamed of either.![Smile]( "Smile")

Update Failed
On one Windows 10 PC updating Titan Beta failed. I ended up uninstalling Titan and the repo and Titan won't install at all. Tried to update on another Windows 10 PC and it fails trying to update to 3.3.31... anyone else?

Can I add a playlist to PTVL that isn't scraped to my library?
The reason I ask is because I'd like to add a channel of concerts. Only problem is that some of them aren't on imdb. I know about smart playlists but I don't know if that'd really work. Can I add a basic playlist as a channel?

New to Kodi...Windows 8 Question
I can't get the Kodi 14.2 ARM for Android program to set up an exec file on my laptop. I'm running Windows 8. I want to install Kodi on my Fire Stick and need to open Kodi for Android on my computer to bridge it over.
For some reason beyond me I can't find the program to open Kodi 14.2 for Android on my computer. The only thing I get when I download Kodi for Android to my computer is a zip file. When I extract the contents zip file it just gives me 4 folders along with 3 programs that I can't open.
Folders: assets, lib, META-INF, res
Programs: AndroidManifest, classes.dex, resources.rsc
I've searched through all the folders and can't find anything to open Kodi.
Could there be driver or DLL missing that's keeping the Kodi app from launching?
Or is there some other program that I need to install to get the app to launch?

Looking for smallish pc with space for 2 x 3.5" disks
As per subject, I am trying to find a PC, ideally barebones rather than case + components, that I can have two 3.5 inch disks in, not fussed if it has disk or OS already but needs spdif.
