Kodi restarts after closing it

Hallo,
I have kodi running on my raspberrypi 4b, with RaspberryPi OS, together with the rpi TV HAT. There's one small issue:
if I close kodi the normal way (for example to change to the graphic Desktop), kodi restarts immedially again. This happens once or twice, then kodi ends really and I can start another program from the cli.

Does somebody know this behavior of kodi's restart and knows a solution?

Does there exist a possibility to change immediately from kodi to another program?

I'm asking this because I'm too lazy to search the forum for now (was going to go to bed), and I noticed this strange behaviour when firing up KODI on 2 of my computers.

I've made some custom changes to the skin a few years ago (fonts, thumbnail display, etc.) only to see them annihilated starting from today, a few minutes ago, after powering up my bedroom computer, just to notice the same thing when checking with my living room one.

Is this some new behaviour I've never heard about? How come I never experienced that before?

Edit: It may be because the skin didn't have an update for a while and I simply ad auto-update turned on (I've just turned it off now)

Edit2: I think I have my answer, version 4.6.11 has just been released yesterday, as of now, and the previous version dated back to October 2019. Now that explains. But... how come I haven't saw it mentioned yet here? I think I will search when I'm in a better mood to do so. I have to go to bed now.

Install widevine CDM on KODI 19

Hello. Using some addons on KODI 19, I found that some require me to WIDEvine CDM to play the content.
I say accept the library installation, but it says it is impossible to install. Can it be solved? Thank you

Kodi crashing on Firestick Lite

I have 3 4k Firesticks running Kodi.  I bought a Firestick Lite to use with a projector.  I restored (using ADB) a backup from another Firestick (multiple times).  It seems to crash between 1-5 minutes.  The logs show nothing other than it is crashing during scanning TV shows.  

I uninstalled/reinstalled Kodi several times.  When I ran it without my backup, I left it for several minutes and it didn't crash.  

I turned off scan on start up since that is where it looked to be crashing from the logs.  However, that didn't help and it crashed elsewhere.  I posted a log, but it seemed to just crash randomly based on the few logs I looked at.  

I hate to reinstall everything from scratch, but I guess if it comes to it....any ideas on what else to check?

Fire tv stick 4k

Hi, guy's i have one problems with kodi: the player every two movies viewed in streaming goes to freeze, but the software remains fluid, why? i also tried kodi 19 matrix and the problem persists, and to fix the boot my possibilities is to force shutdown and restart the program to make it work as before, but after two streaming movies the problem recurs.why? Now i'm back in vers. 18.9 this problem persist.

A95X MAXII + Kodi 18.9 dropping frames every couple of seconds?

Hi Everyone,

Just bought a A95X MAXII  and installed Kodi 18.9.
I've used this on a Sony Android TV (KD-43XD8088) with no problems.

I'm only using Kodi to play from a couple of ext HD (1xWD 4tb and 1WD 5tb), so no addons installed.

The same drives connected to the TV play faultlessly, no frame drops.
Through the A95 no matter what format  I play I'm getting frame drops every couple of seconds? (SD through to 4k,).

I bought this box because all the reviews I'd watched showed a perfect playback of everything with Kodi...
I've tried tweaking all settings for video that I can find in the Expert menus and nothing helps.

Can anyone suggest what I need to do to get rid of this problem?

Master Lock not locking anything except itself

I turned on Master Lock on numeric password. (I intend to use for basic parental controls. I want to lock out access to browsing network file sources, or using any video addons.)

I have it set to lock the file-manager and add-on manager, but not lock at startup.  I can still browse my file sources, and all sources, and access addons freely.  The only time it asks for the code, so far, is when returning to the Master Lock settings themselves.  I've tried restarting Kodi, with the same result.

Any clues here?

Disconnecting from server when starting play back of a tv-recording

Hi,

I have a NVidia Shield TV (P2571) running Kodi 19.0, with TVHeadend addon 8.3.0. I'm running Tvheadend 4.2.8-34~g24a2f59e9 on my Pi4B.
The Shield is setup to never sleep (not when changing input of the tv, nor when shutting down the tv). In the router logs I don't see anything that would indicate the Shield is disconnecting so I assume it stays connected.
Now, after watching TV for a while (or turning off the tv) and then changing input back to my NVidia Shield TV and trying to play back a recording (made with the TVHeadend backend server), I very often (perhaps always) get an error "Server not responding correctly" from TVHeadend HTSP Client.
The procedure is always the same as seen in below logs of TVHeadend: Disconnected, Got connection, Disconnected, Got connection which can take up to 8 seconds in total.
I'm not sure when this started happening.
I already rebooted the Shield, uninstalled and reinstalled Kodi, but the problem remains.

So at 18:53 I tried to play back recording "Ik vertrek", problem as described.

Doing plot search outside MyVideoNav.xml

Hello all,

When you do a search from MyVideoNav.xml (button 8), Kodi searches also plot content. Is there any way to do this search of plot content outside of myvideonav.xml? Any db path or library path or xsp path to do this type of search?

I am trying to replicate all of the functionality of the search button from MyVideoNav.xml in a custom dialog, but I am missing plot content search.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

How to program tv remote "audio" and "subtitles" buttons on Sony Android TV?

I have Sony X9300, Kodi 19, android 7.1.2. Now I am trying to configure the TV remote to open the subtitles menu when the "subtitles" button is pressed on the remote. Same for "audio". And I cannot.

Problem#1 (minor): these is no such action as "subtitles" menu to assignMy bad, it is there
Problem#2 (major): Keymap Editor does not detect "subtitles" nor "audio" buttons. Play/Stop/FF/Rewind work but not these two. I removed the joystick support as advised elsewhere but did not help.

Workaround: "next subtitles" to the "yellow" teletext and "next audio" to "green". But it is just ugly.
Is there a way to use those buttons? VLC supports them so I guess it is not like the "netflix" button which may not be assignable by android tv at all.

Cannot use VLC -- its video decoding is way too picky, does not like way too many files Smile

Windows Kodi Offline Streaming my Own Private Library

I have been trying to find away to use my Surface Tablet to watch my own movies with Kodi offline. I know I can watch them as simple video files, but I was hoping to do so within Kodi and enjoy the thumbnails and interface.

Today I downloaded and installed the add-on Exodus Redux and it doesn't appear I can point to my own network shares instead of some Internet locations. I was hoping I could use that add-on to point to my network shares, pick movies I want to watch during my lunch a work, and through that Add-on download them to watch within Kodi.

So is this not possible and is there no offline streaming within Kodi or an Add-on so one could watch their own content?

KODI 19 crashes when I start playing a video

Hello everyone.

I've been using kodi for years and it was fine until version 18.9.

Since I've upgraded to version 19.0, I can't play videos anymore. It always crashes, I dont get to see a single frame, I get the windows message saying that kodi has crashed, and I'm back on the desktop. No problem with music.

The PC is on windows 10, updated. Videos are on local drives.
I've tried 19beta1, Beta2, RC, with the same result.

When I go back to 18.9, videos are playing again.

Audio distortion using the Kodi IEC Packer on a Shield 2015 with v19.0

Hey Folks,

I started playing around with v19.0 of Kodi on my Shield 2015... using Kodi's IEC packer fixes one of my biggest complaints with Kodi and bitstreaming... after you pause, when you resume, the audio starts at the same time as the video. Awesome!

However, I think there is something not quite right with it. I was watching an episode of Picard (Broken Pieces), which has a 5.1 DTS-MA soundtrack (Audio: DTS 48000Hz 6ch 4608kbps [A: Surround 5.1 [eng] (dts-hd ma, 48000 Hz, 5.1, s16) ]). There is just a bit of distortion in the audio... almost feels like an off-by-1 error. It pretty obvious at the end of the episode, when the 2 ships enter a wormhole... it's easy to hear some crackling there. The crackling isn't present using Android's IEC packer, nor using my Popcorn Hour, so I think there is an issue here.

Anybody else notice it?

Nvidia Shield won't playback ISO format??

I'm a little late to the Matrix upgrade so pardon me if this has been addressed earlier.....I have three shield boxes around the house and none of them will play files in ISO format. I confirmed the files work in VLC with no issues, but when I select a file in KODI the screen goes black for a second and then returns to the menu. The log file shows the following error:

Track naming template

Dear all,
I have been trying to create a track naming template (audio files) for quite a while now.
The desired product should be:
artist (any colour) - album (regular) - track title (Italic) - track number (another colour).
I found and followed the instructions in Kodi's wiki, and I have no difficulties whatsoever formating any two of these three elements according to my needs.
But when I try formating the third element (whatever is still left and wherever ...), the whole system of square brackets and % fails, i.e. it doesn't any longer follow the own, previous rules ...
Clearly, I suspect that this is a bug, but I can't rule out that the error resides on my part ...
Could anyone please send me helpful instructions as to how to format the third and final element of my template?
Your help would be greatly appreciated, regards, PeterD.

Wrong IP address shown in Kodi

So my HTTP remote access stopped working yesterday, which is weird because I am using a static IP for my android server set on my router and didn't change anything.

I checked my router and the Mac address of my android server is linked to the private IP 192.168.x.xx.
On my android server, the system settings show the correct IP address. I also checked with 3rd party apps and they all show this IP address. So everything seems consistent.

Now when I check in Kodi system info, I get a totally different IP address: 10.227.xxx.xxx. This address is even outside of my router range.

I have no idea where this comes from. I have reset and reinstalled Kodi without any addon and with stock settings and the issue persists. I don't have any active VPN on the server but something seems to be messing up with the Internet configuration Kodi sees.

I'm using Kodi 19 on an Android 11 phone and everything had been working fine for weeks.

Any ideas?

Kodi crashes when attempting to browse directory with videos of “multiplexed MPEG-1/2

Kodi crashes when attempting to browse directory with videos of “multiplexed MPEG-1/2” files.

I am running the latest stable Kodi v19.0 Matrix [Downloaded today, 2021.04.21] on Mac OS X 10.14.6.
This problem has existed also on prior beta versions of Kodi 19.0 as well but only now did I bother to troubleshoot and have found a workaround.

WORKAROUND

Open the parent directory in Finder window and make sure the column "Kind" is visible.
Remove any files where the "Kind" property is “multiplexed MPEG-1/2”.
The problem only seems to happen when a file of Kind “multiplexed MPEG-1/2” is present in the directory you are trying to navigate into.

I do not wish to create a debug log or upload to pastebin, as required to report a bug but would be happy to upload one of my problem files for support staff to try and replicate this problem.
Before flaming me for disregarding "requirements" here. I have tried to discuss this issue before, to no avail: posting my personal system debug logs to a public site compromises one's privacy: the Kodi team should respect the privacy of users who want to help fix problems by simply offering an internal form for pasting debug data that would go DIRECTLY to Kodi support, rather than through public sites like pastebin, etc.

TROUBLESHOOTING

These are the things that I have tried so far to diagnose / rule out possible causes and have lead me to the conclusion that filetype is the issue.

> I changed file name to x. No change. Still crashes.
> I change file extension from .mpg to .mpg.avi. No change.
> I changed problem file in alphabetical directory order by adding good files before or after the problem file in the directory name sort. No change.
> I moved the file from location on a smb shared directory to a local directory.
No change: Kodi still crashes when navigating to the local directory on MacOS “Downloads” folder.
> I disabled "Extract thumbnails from video files" in Kodi settings and restarted Kodi. No change. Still crashes.
