Hello everyone,

i have a clean new install of Kodi. No Addons or anything installed. Whenever i want to start a stream or whenever i hover the mouse over "Network" in the "System information", Kodi crashes. My log of the crash should be here: https://paste.kodi.tv/ehorutupek.kodi
i hope anybody is able to help me. This happens no matter which version of Kodi is installed - the recent one, one of the older versions or the pre-release one. It even happens on the Version downloaded by the Microsoft store.
Thank you very much for any help in advance!

Local .nfo file is no good?

Kodi crashing when playing a video from Stream Cinema CZ/SK

Hi, i had no issues with kodi until now. But now when i try to play ANY video through the Stream Cinema CZ/SK addon, loading wheel appears and then it freezes and the app crashes. I opened the event viewer and i found this :

kodi.exe
18.9.0.0
5f935443
kodi.exe
18.9.0.0
5f935443
c0000005

C:\Program Files\Kodi\kodi.exe
C:\Program Files\Kodi\kodi.exe
dfc2f467-95d7-4cd4-beb1-d140a41aab41

I did read somewhere that it is issue with my graphics driver. But i dont think it is that.

I have already tried installing older version of kodi and running the app as administrator, none of that fixed it.

Thx for reply

Shield indexing entire external HDD and it appears to be Kodi?

For days I've been working on this. I've even formatted the Shield and only installed Kodi, completely removing Plex because I thought it was that. I also formatted the drive and re-copied data to it.

Once a day, the HDD indexes or R/W for 30 minutes, and these logs seem to match when it starts:

Buying a new box. Is this a good route? And what about VPN?

Hi All,

Back story
The current system, attached to my projector, is a Liva Mini PC.

It's been running pretty well for a long time now, but it's starting to show its age and struggling with playback just a bit too often.

I originally had it running Xubuntu, with Kodi on top, but higher resolution videos took me into unsolvable driver issues, so I switched over to Window 10 with Kodi on top. That's been OK for a while, but poor playback is just happening too often.

My current projector can play 1080p and 3D video. I'll be keeping the projector until it dies, but I'd ideally like my next box to be able to play higher quality content on a more modern projector.

Sound is much less important. I just need a feed that can go through to a simple stereo amp. With a young family, we actually watch most films with head sets on, to keep the noise down.

I feed media, to the box attached to the projector, via a Jellyfin server. This is connected via LAN. I have no need for wifi and would like the ability to turn wifi off with any box that I buy.

Now
Last night I intended on buying a Roku to replace the Liva. However, I read a couple of things that made me concerned about it not being able to play all video formats. It also didn't feel right to be buying a system that's designed for streaming when my main use is to play content from my own Jellyfin server. I have no interest in Nexflix, Amazon etc. Although I do use iPlayer, and may use other free streaming services.

That all brought me back to Kodi and trying to find the most suitable for today and a few years into the future.

I found ...
https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=252916
... which led me to a shortlist of:
  • ODROID N2+ CoreELEC or
  • Vero 4K+
Good choices?
My first question is, do you guys agree with that conclusion? And if you have much of an opinion between the two devices, please let me know.

VPN
In order to decide between the two devices, because I have never used CoreELEC or OSMC, I wanted to find out how I could use my VPN service (I use Private Internet Access).

With Xubuntu and Windows, it's easy. PIA has Ubuntu and Windows apps which work great. They also have automatic kill switches for if the VPN connection fails for any reason.

When Kodi kind of becomes part of the OS, how can you reliably set up the VPN? And how can you know that it's working? If it is working, how can you turn it off temporarily (iPlayer, for example, doesn't work well with most VPN's).

I've done a bit of googling, and both CoreELEC and OSMC seem to have the facility to use a VPN, but it looked tricky to set up and less than bulletproof.

This makes me wonder if I should still get one of the above devices, but then replace the OS with Ubuntu, set up PIA, and then use Kodi as an app.

Or, if I'm considering that route, maybe I should pay more and get a more powerful mini PC for this purpose? I'd rather keep the cost down with the simpler options if it's not too difficult.

What do you guys think?

Thanks,
Damian

Kodi stutters when loading local files with the Jellyfin plugin

$

I had been using Libreelec with Kodi since January on my Raspberry Pi 3 without any problem, with my films and tv shows stored in an external HDD with its own power supply. A month ago I've installed Jellyfin server on the same Pi via the Docker Kodi addon, getting the image from jellyfin/jellyfin. Since streaming videos to my laptop seemed to work so well, I've decided to install the Jellyfin plugin in Kodi on the Pi as well — basically having server and client on the same machine.

I've managed to set it up in native mode, meaning that Kodi accesses the film directly from the HDD, but syncs its metadata with Jellyfin. Indeed if I open the Chorus web interface and open the metadata for a film, it will show its local path (namely /media/HDD/Some Film/Some.Film.mkv). So far so good.

Unfortunately I'm noticing occasional stuttering when playing videos that wasn't there before. This seem to correspond to points with sudden movement on screen, which makes me think that they happen when there's a sudden increase in bitrate. On the other hand, it doesn't seem to be affected by the average bitrate of the video: an 8Mbps WEB-DL will stutter just as much as a 20Mbps encode, both doing so in action-heavy scenes.

Mind you, this lasts for a fraction of a second. To put it more clearly, it feels like every 10-20 minutes a handful of consecutive frames is dropped.

I've disabled the setting in Jellyfin that would otherwise have it sync metadata during playback, and it seems that it is indeed doing so. You can see that at the end of the logs I've posted below: Jellyfin synced data when I started watching an episode (2020-11-06 12:53), and again when I stopped the same episode halfway through (2020-11-06 13:06), but doesn't try to do anything inbetween. Hence I can only think that the culprit must be Kodi, which however was working just fine before.

Let me know if you need any more detail.

post processing comskip and picon issues

Hi,

I previously was using Libreelec as my tvheadend server.  The comskip and picons works fine but the live tv stream constantly has continuity errors and video halts.  I decided to try tvheadend server on Ubuntu server to see if I get better results using the same equipment.  In the short time using Ubuntu server, the video stream is way better with no video halts and only continuity errors when you first turn to a channel. The two issues I have is I can't figure out how to set up the post processing comskip and the picons using file:/// does not seem to work.

For the comskip, I am using the following command in libreelec which works:
/storage/.kodi/addons/service.tvheadend42/bin/comskip --ini=/storage/.kodi/userdata/addon_data/service.tvheadend42/comskip/comskip.ini %f

In Ubuntu server I'm using the following command but it never creates the edl file:
/Comskip/comskip --ini=/var/snap/tvheadend/139/comskip/comskip.ini %f

In tvheadend it says comskip being executed from the Ubuntu server but it never outputs anything.  I can't even find where the log file is to see what the issue is.  Can somebody please tell me where the log file is for comskip so I can see what the issue is?

I thought it may be a rights issue and made the folder were the recording are locateed as chmod 777, not sure what else the issue may be.

Also, does anybody have any suggestions to make the picons work using file:///?

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks in advance

This is my first post so please be gentle. I have a MXQ pro 2GB android box and been playing with Kodi I have installed a build on there xenon plus Diggz. This seems a quite popular build while you get used to what kodi have to offer.

I have managed to get certain items working over a vpn etc but for some reason when I try to use the built in app for “sport” it starts to load BT sports for example it loads but then crashes right away. I have tried to include a picture so you can see what flashes up before it goes back to the list.

This happens on any channel I op choose. What might be happening?

"Chromecast with Google TV" with Kodi; playback 576p fullscreen and related questions

Hello.  Newbie alert here Smile

I have just bought a new "Chromecast with Google TV" (GCCwGTV), connected it with wired ethernet, plugged it into an older LG 1080 TV, and installed Kodi on it.

So, now I have a couple of what I hope to be easy config questions.

Context:
I have external USB3 disks with a range of media files in h.264/aac (interlaced and non-interlaced) and h.265/aac ... so I setup a Raspberry Pi 4 as a very cheap NAS on my home LAN, and the "NFS shares" can be seen by Kodi on the CCwGTV.
How to setup a NAS:
1. how to setup a Raspberry Pi 4 as a NAS using SAMBA with an external USB3 disk https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewt...1&t=289943
2. how to setup a Raspberry Pi 4 as a NAS using NFS with an external USB3 disk https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewt...8#p1751528

A couple of things perhaps someone here knows the answers to:

a) 576p video files play in a window smaller than the 1080 sized LG TV; 1080 plays full screen OK. Is there a setting for the 576p to play it "full screen" ? ... Also, is Kodi decoding it in software ot is it hardware decoding on the GCCwGTV ?

b) when Kodi is listing video files from the NAS (NFS), they show in a relatively skinny window in the middle of the screen on the 1080 sized TV, and hovering over one make that filename scroll-right so you can see the rest of it. Almost all of my files thus have their filenames partly obscured. Is there a setting to make that skinny window wider so I can easily see the full filenames ?

c) does the CCwGTV device play h.264 interlaced content (eg as recorded from TV) natively or would Kodi be doing software decoding/deinterlacing (or it won't play at all) ?

Thanks.

Hotkey for blank other displays

Hi,

Is there any way to bind a hotkey to the setting "blank other displays"? Sometimes I watch Live TV on my PC while I'm using my secondary monitor, and sometimes I watch movies or Live TV on my TV. I want to bind a hotkey to my remote if it's possible.

Thanks!

Argh ... ODROID N2+ vs Vero 4K+. I just can't decide!

Hi All,

I'm trying to buy a replacement for my Liva Mini PC.

Following the tips in the excellent "START HERE - Pick the Right Kodi Box (updated October 2020)" thread (https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=252916), I'm planning to get either the ODROID N2+ or a Vero 4K+. I've had both of them in the shopping carts, on their respective sites, but I keep changing my mind between which one to get.

ODROID N2+
Seems to be more powerful all around.
With double the memory of the Vero!
The extra power feels more future proof.
It also lets me play with the OS more, if I either don't like CoreELEC (for any reason .. I've never tried it) or it becomes obsolete.

Vero 4K+
Seems less powerful.
Having so little memory makes me nervous (my 'feeling old and slow' Liva only has 2 Gig too).
Locks me into one OS. If I don't like OSMC (for any reason .. I've never tried it), then putting any other OS on there would probably leave me with a box that feels much less powerful.
The OS is pretty much written for the hardware, so I'm sure that they can get the very best out of it.
Support and community seems to be great!

I just can't decide between the two.

Current and future needs
My current projector can play 1080p and 3D video. I'll be keeping the projector until it dies, but want my next box to be able to play higher quality content in future.
Sound will just be going to a stereo amp from the 3.5 audio jack (which I believe they both have).
I'll be feeding media via a Jellyfin server. This is connected via LAN. I have no need for wifi.

Does anyone have any opinions one way or the other?

Thanks,
Damian

Buffering when ONLY when Kodi's MythTV Addon is behind a Router!

$

Currently I am performing some short term testing with a Second Router behind my Internet Router and I was curious to see whether Kodi could stream MythTV Recordings when connecting through a Router.  Although with my current configuration of Gargoyle 1.12.0, Local Hostnames on the LAN closest to my Internet Router will NOT Resolve, if the MythTV Addon is configured with the IP Address of the MythTV Host on the LAN closest to my Internet Router, I am able to Stream from Kodi Clients connected to the LAN behind the Router furthest from my Internet Router!

Then curiously I noticed one Kodi Client on the LAN furthest from my Internet Router would sometimes experience some Buffering Issues (when that same Kodi Client has experienced none previously).  With further investigation: I noticed the CPU Load of the Kodi Client Machine on the LAN furthest from the Internet Router will be Double or even Triple when streaming from the MythTV Server on the LAN closest to the Internet Router (compared to when that same Kodi Client Machine was connected to the same LAN as the MythTV Server).  Additionally artificially dropping a 1 Gbit Kodi Client's connection to the Router furthest from the Internet Router down to 100 Mbit, increases its likelihood of experiencing Buffering Issues?

My testing with this Second Router is only Temporary and my iperf3 results demonstrate there is 5 times the bandwidth available for 100 Mbit Kodi Clients than should be required to avoid Buffering, when a Kodi Client is NOT connected on the same LAN as the MythTV Server...  I am curious to understand why Kodi's MythTV Addon might be performing so much more poorly when its connection to the MythTV Server is through a Router (TP-Link Archer C7 V5.0)?

Hi there,

i have got a few questions in regards to this skin:
  1. Is it possible to have music sorted using Album Interpret from the tags? In order to have only one folder per Interpret and not per Album of every Interpret.
  2. Is it possible like in the default skin to choose between different 3DLuts via video OSF Menu ?(Could not find it using this skin)
  3. Can i somehow achieve that when opening for example "Movies" or "Series" that the default view is "Titel"?
Best Regards and thanks
