4k Linux Question?

I want to buy or build a Linux system for Kodi that can do 4k playback with no issue and can also support HDR.  My Question is, is this even possible or am I chasing a unicorn?

Hi, I (together with a friend Tjarco) am the developer of Mia - The Kodi Remote. We just released version two and have set up a roadmap for what is coming next.

With Mia we just hope to get the most out of iOS for a great Kodi experience, and incrementally add more nifty features. We also have a reddit page to post our updates and get feedback or feature requests, but it seems logical to also discuss Mia here.

Mia’s Roadmap overview

First of all, thank you for all the support for Mia Smile

With version 2 of Mia just released, we introduced the start of a new design. To give you an idea of what the two of us are working on next, we provide this general roadmap we have set for ourselves.
The following general roadmap is based on logical steps needed for each new feature and has taken your requests into account. This roadmap is more of a guideline for ourselves than written in stone.

Please use this post to discuss your idea’s for future improvements or questions Smile

1: Big cleanup
We start with a big cleanup. Expect Mia first to receive performance and design improvements. A new remote improving usability and support for more screen-sizes. More consistent design elements, and some bug fixes. We use this cleanup to drastically reduce the complexity for us to add new features we have in mind, the first redesign update was already a big step forward to this goal.
We might divide this part in more than one update, to receive some intermediate feedback and provide bug fixes faster.

2: iPad
With all the mayor changes from the big cleanup fase, we want to fully focus on iPad support.

3: New features
After the iPad support release we will implement some new features that came by requests or we always wanted to implement ourselves. Think of some minor features like the ability to select more power options for Kodi, select a starting screen for Mia. Some larger features are also in our mind, but we leave those as a surprise.

4: Local playback
This is something we wanted to add since the start, but we are still exploring the best options to do this. We can’t promise this feature will actually work, but I can tell that we have made the first steps and a working prototype….


As a final remark, I would like to add that there are some features unmentioned but not forgotten. For instance, support for the Apple Watch is something we will definitely add, but currently has a lower priority due to the current lack of an Apple Watch to test and work with.

Overscan on Kodi 18

I installed Kodi 18 beta 4 on my RPI 3 B+ with Raspbian, and I don't see any setting to change overscan or calibrate the display (I am using composite out and a CRT TV). The RPI config.txt overscan settings are ignored by Kodi. Here is my Kodi display settings screen, with the resolution option grayed out, and no calibration options that I can see.

Is there maybe a manual way to fix this with advancedsettings.xml?

More Control Over Metadata and Interface

There is so much complicated talk about scraping meta data from different sources, it has become user friendly only for users who are not picky. And the method requires that Kodi be able to access the internet, and the scraping source. The process is online, and the user cannot customize anything, they can only pick a source. At least that is my knowledge of how things work.

I know this has been proposed before, but what if I wanted to do it all myself? What if I wanted my movie file to be associated to a local JPEG or PNG image file for CD art, and Fan art? What if I wanted to insert my own description? You will say "it's available on IMdB, or TMDB, or any other database". And while that's true, it takes away control over the process of customization. What if I want to play an April Fool's joke or something by using a false name, CD art, Fan art and description? I can't do any such pranks as of yet, even though I would love to watch my sister start a horror movie thinking it's an animated disney film. Tongue

And that is just being able to provide custom properties to present files. What if I wanted the interface to show a dud? What if I wanted to add a movie title, along with a CD art, Fan art, description and all those other properties, such that clicking on that would simply lead to a message saying something like "Movie not found"? What if I wanted that item on my list without it leading to a specific file, just because it looks fulfilling?

These are my issues. It is all about control. I need things to be user friendly as I am a total noob with no technical sav, and definitely no coding skills. As of now, only super smart users can achieve what I want through complicated means, and only users who are not picky can be satisfied with how the scrapers work. Being able to input my own data is an important part of the experience, and I am not willing to compromise. I am only going to speak for myself, but I hope that this resonates within at least a few other people out there.

split video files won't auto-play second part

I have several split video files. They scrape correctly and "information" shows they have stacked correctly for playing but they don't. Each part will play fine but when trying to play the stack, only the first part plays.

How to add custom folder options

Hi guys,

I would like to add a custom link to the folder options menu to my plug-in. Actually I don't know how it's called the menu. It's the menu where user are able to choose View options, Sort list by name, choose Ordering , etc. etc. I think it's possible because the Library node editor plug-in adds a link called Edit nodes to that menu. But I can't figure out how it was implemented. The method ListItem.addContextMenuItems() seems to add a custom link to the item. What i would like to do is add a custom link to the folder. Could someone link me some docs, or give an advice on how to do it...

Trakt List Manager -check log error

I recently installed Trakt List Manager on the android tv.which gives me the "check error log" message,so I installed Kodi Log viewer.Now I have installed Kodi 17.6 on Windows 10 and appear to be getting the same,or similar errors.

Firstly,can someone tell how to even find kodi on Windows 10 and how to copy and paste the log.It is not in program files,or program x86 files,so where did it get installed!?

v18 - Getting a crash when skin ver of addon extendedinfo dialog window closes

I've been integrating the extendedinfo script into my skin.  The addon uses 3 dialog xml files to show its gui controls.  When I run the addon using its own skin windows from its /skins/Default/1080i it exits OK, but with the windows converted into my skin when I give the "back" action in the window it looks like extendedinfo gets it and exits then when Kodi closes the window it crashes.  My theory is maybe the controls are being held somewhere (Kodi? addon?) and not being released properly and that causes a problem when the window is closed.  Any ideas on how to dig deeper into this?

Xbox one can't show Live or Recorded TV

I have a Kodi / ServerWMC (on Win 7) system set up and working very well using RPi clients and a Win10 client.  I just recently got an Xbox One X and tried installing Kodi.  At first I was getting messages during Kodi startup that Recorded TV folder cannot be accessed.  I tried installing the Kodi SMC add-on, the message went away but still couldn't access the videos.  I can see and play the recorded tv videos through Videos>Files though.  I changed the ServerWMC address from a computer name to the IP address without any change.

Any ideas?

I've previously tried installing Kodi on an Android tablet and had similar results but I know that tablet does not support MPeg2 and my tuner is a HDHomeRun Prime.  The streams are sent and recorded in Mpeg2 as far as I can tell.  I don't have logs from that setup - I'll try that in the future if the Xbox can be fixed.

v18 - different Addon-Info Dialog Layout when opened from dynamic List

pretty weard but the Addon Info Dialog Looks differently when i lounch it from a dinamic List. (Infolables & Buttons)

is it might possible that ListItem.Property(Addon.IsInstalled) doesnt work if the Infodialog is opened from a dynamic path?

EDIT3:

Just noticed that Estuary also got some inconsistency
in Estuary it sometimes shows the "Repository Name" and sometimes offers "klick here to see the latest changes"

(just open the AddonInfodialog from Estuary one time right from the Widgets, and then from Settings -> Addons -> Install from Repository"; At least on my End i get there also different dialog Content.)

USTV Now Problems

I pay for USTV Now on KODI and something has gone terribly awry. The program will not load fast when loading the tv listings and when you select a channel ( at times it simply refuses to recognize the request times out and says your information is wrong. Then it will repeatedly freeze over and over on a show where I suspect there is heavy viewership, but the crappy shows work fine. After the freezing it will eventually drop the channel and you will have to go back and reselect it. THIS IS GETTING REAL OLD I pay for it and can't depend on watching it. OK I do the maintenance-clean the cache- thumbnails- and the other thing (forgot for the moment. I have a 2gb memory and use the tool for adjusting the playback memory in the tools for a 2 gb system. I use no limits magic as a program and that is where the tool comes from. This system has worked fine for a long time but has gotten worse and worse over the last four months or so. Now I have two boxes one hard wired to the modem the other not. Both systems have the problems. When I use Firefox no problems what so ever. I had a 150 MB download from Comcast and increased it to 250mb hoping that would clear the problem and no dice it is the same as it was before increasing speed. PLEASE HELP FIX IT

Save more positions (songs) to one single video file (e.g. music gig)

Hello, there,

I have several video files of music concerts, with a duration of about 3 hours.

I would love it, if there was the possibility to save several positions for one video file in the playlist.  So one for each song.

With this you can then jump to special songs in a playlist or via the search directly across all concerts.

v18 - AAC audio stopped working between last beta and RC1

Hello,

When playing a stream from the web (French TV catch-up), I do not get any sound anymore since RC1. The connected AVR does not even acknowledge reception of anything audio-related. The video is fine, though.

The computer is a Dell Latitude E6220, i5 Sandy Bridge with Intel video.
On-board HDMI used (2 DVI-D/DisplayPort available on attached docking station, but unused/untested).
Up-to-date Ubuntu 18.04-LTS.
Unstable Kodi PPA (18RC1 at the moment).
Followed the Intel VAAPI with v18 guide.
Framerate adjusted with a 2.5s pause.
The AVR is a Denon AVR-2310
The TV is a Toshiba 37" 1080p.

Global audio amplification and subtitle settings??

I got my raspberry pi with kodi 18 working great with my crt tv.

But the audio output is very low. I can go into the audio settings on a video and add 25db of audio amplification.. But I have to do that per video....

Is there any way to do that globally so I don't have to repeat that step on each video??

If I could set my subtitle settings globally, that would be great too.

Error during kodi compilation in Ubuntu

I am manually compiling xbmc 17.6 krypton on a Ubuntu 18.04 Server OS. After running bootstrap successfully, when i run ./configure, it asks for some dependencies but I am stuck at this error and can't find anything about this anywhere. Please help..The error is as follows:

Potential bug in GetSeasonDetails (not returning watchedepisodes)

Whenever I am using GetSeasons, I correctly get all the information about seasons.

However, when navigating deeper into my app, I want to call GetSeasonDetails, and somehow it does not return the watchedepisodes. According to the docs, the watched episodes should be returned.

HLG HDR - Hybrid Log Gamma / ARIB STD-B67 - support

I know there is a lot of concentration on HDR10 ST.2084 PQ HDR support (as used on UHD Blu-ray), but there is now also HLG HDR content appearing in the wild. The BBC are using HLG for UHD on their iPlayer catch-up/streaming platform in the UK.  It is likely to be popular with broadcasters as it is backwards compatible with SDR within the same colour gamut, and has fewer issues around tone mapping than PQ HDR.  (It is also scene referred not display referred - so doesn't need any additional metadata other than 'I'm HLG')

The HLG EOTF is backwards compatible with an SDR EOTF to a reasonable degree, and so doesn't need tone mapping for SDR output in the same way that HDR10 in a ST.2084 EOTF does. When you play HLG stuff in Kodi it's watchable  on an HDR or SDR display in SDR mode if it is output in the correct colour gamut - usually Rec 2020 (not Rec 709), but as Kodi doesn't flag HLG over HDMI, HDR displays don't switch into HLG HDR mode.

HLG is ratified as part of BT.2100/Rec.2100 alongside PQ HDR, and is specified in ARIB STD-B67.  It can be used in both Rec 2020 and Rec 709 colour gamuts but broadcast content will almost certainly use it in the Rec 2020 gamut.

Refresh of movie file metadata not working on 18 RC1on Androd TV

I have been using the beta versions and the new RC1 which works well for playback and movie scraping. However there doesn't seem to refresh the data on an existing movie in my libray once it has been entered. From time to time I update my movie files from SD to HD and improve to audio to DTSHD etc but have no way to tell Kodi the information has changed. In version 17 and in SPMC and indeed MrMC once the revised version is played the library  data on definition etc uipdated in version !8 it doesn't. Asking it to refresh deosn't appear to do anything. Apart from that it seems a a great edition.
