Difficulty using kodi with a VPN

Hi all
not too sure where to paste this, so please no flames if the wrong place
up to a few months ago I was using kodi on ubuntu 16 on a ARM SBC
I started to find that more and more when starting a plugin , both official and un official 
you could select what you wanted to watch and the dreaded demux failure would occur, often after a few attempts it would eventaully play.
I'm in the UK and the use of a VPN is solely to get around geolocation restrictions in the USA..
This got really bad and I updated the OS to ubuntu18.04 and Kodi17.6, and been pulling my hair out.
I have now identified the problem, but not sure if there is a solution.
I use ipvanish and have tried servers in Atlanta, Chicago and New York, if I turn the VPN off I can use stream from Crackle and other addons
If I use a UK server sometimes I still get a problem.
Even with a fresh install today with just kodi on the wee computer turning the VPN on to a USA server allows streams on the wnbc addon, but they stall after a few seconds, 
but with VPN on I get demux failure on nearly everything.
So is this a ipvanish thing , or over zealous blocking of streams going to vpn servers.
With the vpn on to the USA even trying to update the ubuntu system fails to download.
, that shouldn't happen as its just a secure tunnel from A to B
Is anyone else seeing this

Validity of Kodi-addons

Hi there, new to this forum as well the world of Kodi. I got a new Fire TV Stick and so far things have been good. One of my friends suggested installing Kodi onto Fire TV which I did. My friend has several Kodi add-ons that are not available in the official Kodi addon page here https://kodi.tv/addons so, upon searching I found some Kodi addons here https://techvpn.com/best-kodi-addons/ and then I came across this news https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/sci...ine-piracy  and a blog on Kodi.tv explaining how the Kodi boxes are killing Kodi.

My questions is, how exactly we draw a line between which addons I can use and which I cannot. Are all the third-party add-ons that are not available on Kodi.tv addon page illegal to use? I only need to see a few sports event for which I will happily pay if made available in my country, but they are not available. So, I am looking for a way to watch these sports event online. Kodi seems to be most recommended software on almost every forum, hence the question. Any suggestion or clarity regarding the use of third-party add-ons is appreciated.

Showing a "now playing" screen without playing anything?

Hey!

I think I'll have to write a plugin for my own purpose.

What I want to accomplish is to connect MPD with Kodi.
When MPD is running, I want to display the now playing screen on Kodi, and make it look like it's playing the audio file on its own.

In my current understanding I actually have to play a file to show up this view. Is there a way to fake it?

PDP Bluetooth remote for xbox or playstation?

Do the PDP Talon (xbox) or PDP Universal (playstation) remotes work directly with Kodi?  To be more specific Librelelc.
I have tried a lot of the cheap IR remotes and haven't really liked any of the feels of them.

v17 - Displaying movie info crashes Kodi 17.6

I have a strange problem.

When I call up movie info - either through the context menu or by pressing 'i' - for nearly all the movies in my library, it works fine, but for one or two (maybe more) this crashes Kodi.

Two movies for which this happens every time, on all my Kodi installs, are 'Amadeus' and 'Oblivion'. I've tried switching skins, disabling add-ons but this hasn't helped.

All the art is local (I use TMM).

Anyone got any ideas? Studio art maybe? Or something else?

Edit: There is also a crashlog, should I copy and paste the contents of that to pastebin as well? Or does it need to be the actual file, say in dropbox etc?

How to get Kore to view files/folders via File Browser?

I'm running Kodi 17.6 Krypton on a Minix U9-H Android box which is connected to a router via ethernet. Wifi is turned off. I'm using Kore to access my content. All works fine except the File Browser option in the main menu. Under 'Video' I can see my laptop, which is on the same network, but under Music it says 'Media source empty'. I want to be able to access my music by folder. On Kodi I have shared my libraries under UPnP and allowed Airplay. I have tried turning wifi on, connected to the same network, but there's no difference. How do I access my music on Kore via the File Browser?

Win - Help kodi won't play movie links

Hello I just got kodi in my windows 10 laptop and added maverick addon and whenever I try to play movies it loads but doesn't open up. A play button shows up in the right corner but the movie doesn't show up.What can I do to fix this? Please help me out here?

Some issues with Blu-Ray playback

Hi,

I am using Kodi 18 with AnyDVD for Blu-Ray playback, which works fine for me in 99,9% of all cases. 

However I would like to share some issues that I have found, hope that I might get some hints!

1. Blu-Ray menu and OSD: when I configure the player to show the Blu-Ray menu, the enter key will not show the OSD. Instead I have to hit the "m" key (player - discs - bluray playback mode). When I configure the simplified manu, the enter key works. Actual Java is installed.

2. Audio config: I have to set up  the audio output configurtion as "fixed" (system - audio - output configuration) to get audio over HDMI. This is a bit inconvenient because it does not allow me to use DTS-Neo or Dolby-PL for stereo sources. This occurs with different sample rates. When conneted via Toslink, everything works fine, except I cannot use fo example DTS-HD Master. Other audio sources like windows media player work without problem.

I will be happy to hear your suggestions! My setup is Kodi 18 beta 2 with Confluence, the AV receiver is attached via HDMI.

Can Kodi be installed directly to Hidden Router?

Hi,
New to all of this and please reply to my answer in terms for a newbie ;-)

All my TV's are Samsung so they are not running on the android platform, so my question is would there be any way to actually install Kodi directly into Hidden Router? I do have ATT Uverse router which I will have the Hidden router connected to ( if that helps at all)

I see that the Hidden Router does have a USB port  in it, could Kodi run from a USB flash drive?

Scraping wrong season info

I created a brand new TV show under my TV tree:

e:\tv\new show

Then added files for season 2 (not season 1):

e:\tv\new show\season2\s02e01.mkv
e:\tv\new show\season2\s02e02.mkv

Then ran tinymediamanagercmd -updateTV -scrapenew -rename

It picked up the correct show and updated metadata for that show, however it scraped information for season 1 (not 2) and renamed episodes weirdly:

e:\tv\new show\season2\s02e01 - episode name for s01e01.mkv
e:\tv\new show\season2\s02e02 - episode name for s01e01.mkv

Note that s02 is the name of the file but the name of the episode is from s01.  The videos are even still under season 2.

Why is this happening?

Update library. Only find new files?

When I hit "Update Library" it takes forever.  All I did was add a single episode to a TV show and it seems to want to scrape my entire library.  I have it scraping local information only since I am using Tiny Media Manager but it still takes forever.   Is there something potentially wrong with this?

Emby integration with Kodi?

Is it possible to use Emby to start watching a movie/show then run kodi to pick up where you left off?  Or at least mark shows you've watched in one or the other?  Right now I have emby running against my media library and using MySQL for Kodi.  SHould I integrate Kodi and Emby better?  Is there a page that describes how to do this?

Atmos / trueHD 7.1 passthrough not working. 5.1 works

Hi Smile

I have an issue with Kodi on Linux where passthrough for TrueHD / DTS-HD is not working on 7.1 videos. No audio. On 5.1 videos Atmos works (my AV confirms saying "Dolby Atmos"). On Windows passthrough works for all videos using WASAPI.
 
* Intel NUC: NUC6I7KYK
* Soundbar: Samsung HW-N950
* Debian Stretch with kernel 4.18
* Kodi 17.6
* Firmware of intel HDMI adaptar is up to date

In this log I play a 5.1 atmos demo (works). Then a 7.1 demo (does not work).

Since it all works on Windows, I guess it must be software/driver related within Linux.

Anything I can do to make it work?

v17 - Instability issues since moving house

Hi all and thanks for the help in advance, love you all.

I know I've not supplied a log file with this post so would appreciate the best log to supply to help with this issue

In my old house I had a wired cat 6 network, 2 Pi's running v17 using Openelec and an old HP micorserver with MySQL and all the media and controlling it with the kore remote off different android devices. Since moving house I've had nothing but trouble though.

New network is the TP-Linki DECO 5 Mesh system and the two Pis are running wifi dongles. What kept happening is that I could get one up and running but the moment I had a 2nd instance of kodi on the system it would crash with the only way forward being to delete the mySQL database and start again. Every time it was fine until the 2nd instance came up, either on a Pi or a windows machine. They also keep disconnecting from the kore remote, they will be registered on the mesh network, the kore remote will see them but not connect, or will drop out. (goes orange, then red in the selection screen)

I've tried to find ways to resolve this but get nowhere

v18 - Password prompt annoying most times...Esc go away.

I have had this problem with Kodi 17.6 and 18 beta2, with either PIN or full text, on both Windows 7 and CoreElec.

I assign the password under Interface > Master Lock, and check File Manager, Settings (All) and Add-on Manager. Checking Programs & Scripts Windows or not makes no difference here.

The result is that when I go to my custom home screen, I keep getting the password prompt on all main menu items. Pressing Esc button makes it go away; it correctly works with protected settings.

Any solution? Also is there a way to lock System Info?

How to add folders from PC

Hello, 

I have installed KODI on my Android TV, and i want to access the movies and TV shows stored on my PC hdd. The movies and tv shows folders are shared and the PC and TV are in the same LAN. 
I can't seem to see the folders on the PC from the Android app. If i try to add videos from Windows network (SMB) i can see my PC but i can't access it (I get Connection Timeout error instantly). 
I also installed KODI on the PC, if i do the exact same steps i can access the PC and see there the 2 above shared folders. 

What am i doing wrong with the android app?
