KODI 17.6 crashes on Android 7.1- amlogic s905x p212 board

Hello everyone!

I am building a ROM for my TV box (p212 board). I added kodi apk(Krypton (17.6) armv8) in the ROM to be installed as a system app. (i.e. putting APK inside vendor/amlogic/prebuilt and adding a line about PRODUCT_PACKAGES in n-amlogic/device/amlogic/common/products/mbox/product_mbox.mk; If you wish see this history of my trials about installing APK in other pathes)

BUT when I launch it (for first time) Only the splash screen is shown with logcat. For next tries even that page not shown again and you see a blank screen. After several seconds an ANR is shown!

Although I tried installing it as a user app (removing it from ROM and installing the apk file as a normal app) and all things work correctly.

Anyone has any idea why installing KODI as system app causes problem according to log mentioned above?

Looking for Ubuntu 16.04 Minimal Install post

There used to be a post for installing Kodi 17.6 on a minimal install Ubuntu 16.04 server.
But  search is not finding it.

I cannot go to Ubuntu 18.04 / Kodi 18, as TVHeadend does not support it
Also have an older video card (AMD/ATI Juniper XT [Radeon HD 5770] )

...or can I just adapt this thread https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=231955 to my requirements?

Been web searching for an answer to if it is possible to use another player in Kodi such as VLC or MX.
If so, how?

AdvancedSettings.XML in Kodi 18 Beta

Due to some jitter issues, discussed in another thread, I started making adjustments to the cache settings and that just made things worse. Even putting the settings back and exiting Kodi and clearing the program cache didn't bring it back to where I started. As a matter of fact, no change to the cache settings in the XML file seems to do anything at all. And the only way to get back to the original micro-jitter issue is to clear all the Kodi data.

My question is this. Does Kodi 18 even use these settings anymore? And if so, what are the optimum settings using a Fire TV Cube with 200mb connection. I know about the memory size formula. avail mem/3 * 1024 * 1024.

Now on that note, I have the same issue and question with the settings>player>video settings. Any change to the processing settings starts stuttering and audio sync issues. But once I change any setting, I have to clear all the Kodi data to get back to where I started. So, either Kodi doesn't apply the change, or the change isn't applied correctly.

I have a suspicion that the new smooth picture feature in the Kodi nightly releases is affecting these things.

Linux - No hardware acceleration on video decoding on Xubuntu 18.04 Krypton

Hi all...
I have an issue using Krypton 17.6 Kodi under Xubuntu 18.04.... it seems that there isn't video decoding and CPU is always under heavy load while playing videos. I965-va-driver and libva2 are installed, and VAAPI is enabled in Kodi settings. Otherwise, videos plays very well under VLC, without any CPU overload. This is quiet annoying as I'm playing videos, sometimes I get some stuttering...

My system is running on Celeron N3010 (Barebone) with iGPU Intel...

Am I the only one getting this issue? Is this a known issue linked to the Kodi release?

I thank you a lot for answers, have a good day !

Exporting library to individual files leads to degraded fanart over time.

Thus far I've been exporting my nfo and art to the respective folders using 'export library' and choosing 'individual files'. But what I've noticed is that doing so has introduced the unexpected behavior of a slowly degrading fanart images for all media. 2 questions:

1) was there some special way I should have gone about this to avoid this ? E.g. every time I'm wanting to export library, doing so twice: first time overwriting and NOT choosing to export fanart; and then the second time including fanart but not overwriting [ie. I want the nfos overwritten, but not the fanart etc.]
2) is there a way to refresh these images (rescrape) so the pixelated versions are replaced with new ones ? learning how to avoid the issue in the future is a first good step, but fixing the problem itself would also be great.

Thanks a lot !

v18 - Broken playback of MP3 files/radio streams on RPi 1

Hello,

over the last month's I've installed several versions of Milhouse's test builds, but struggle with a persistent issue with MP3 files.
The playing of many MP3 files raises the CPU consumption to 100% and they will played „slower as expected“.
This issue does not depends directly on the bit rate or sample rate of the files. Removing '.kodi' and and overclocking on 800 MHz doesn't help me to solve the problem.
Moreover, most radio streams won't play at all. Saving the stream as file leads to the first problem.

kodi.log shows following (One streaming attempt + one local file playing)
Code:

Could someone provide me a hint how to solve this problem?

Show Date of Last Update?

Is there a way to show the date of the last update of the "current" version of an add-on in Kodi?  Is it a Skin thing?

It seems lots of add-ons haven't been updated in years, are actually broken, but not marked broken…  Be nice to see how abandonware they are…

v18 - HEVC/x265 support in Libreelec on RPi3 is amazing ... plans to mainline changes?

I was experimenting with LibreELEC-RPi2.arm-9.0-Milhouse-20180923210325-#0923-g442e2de and found that it could play a 2.8kb/s HEVC video file flawlessly on the Pi3B+.  When I compare it to my own build of 18.0b2 on the same hardware, the video playback is unwatchable/choppy.  Are there plans to get the changes unique to the Milhouse build into the mainline Kodi?

Weird issues with HTPC, Kodi, Motion Smoothing and TV

So, this isn't support for something wrong with Kodi, but something Kodi does to solve one of my problems with external video players.

I'm having a lot of weird issues right now trying to get some sort of HTPC setup with my TV. I'm trying to find a solution to watch 4K HDR content with HD audio. Currently, I'm using MPC-BE with MadVR with a PC that has an I7 4770k and 1080. I'm not having any trouble with the video/audio processing. My PC is outputting HDMI through to my receiver, Onkyo TX-NR676, to my TV, TCL 6 Series.

When I have my TV, a TCL 6 Series, connected to the 1080, none of the "advanced feature" settings work. Things like motion smoothing, Natural Motion, LED clarity simply don't activate regardless of what setting I have them on. I know most people don't like motion interpolation, but without it I sometimes get headaches. So when using MPC-BE, MPC-HC, or VLC, DSplayer, motion smoothing does not work at all on my TV. Someone on AVS forum said that the TV automatically detects the PC connected and turns off all those features.

The absolute weird thing is, though, when I watch something directly through Kodi (which unfortunately won't really work with HDR) motion smoothing actually works again. I'm not sure what Kodi does differently to re-enable these features.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this or what I could do to fix it? Or where the correct place to post this would be? Or what Kodi is doing to

I tried to purchase a S912 Kodi box to use CoreELEC to solve this issue, but that's been nothing but another headache. Motion smoothing works and all, but video playback is spotty, at best.

v18 - Will Leia/InputStream allow playback of Microsoft Store-purchased video?

$

To date, it has looked like the only way to play video purchased from the Microsoft Store is to use the Microsoft-provided app "Movies & TV". Attempting to play the DRM-protected video in Kodi just results in blocky rubbish.

I was wondering if the addition of support for DRM-playback in Leia will allowed those videos to be played back directly within Kodi?

If that is the intention, is it possible with current betas?

Thanks.

Kodi either doesn't see my Flash Drive, or sees it incorrectly

Hello,  I am running Kodi on a Minix box.  I copy movies to a flash drive which I insert in the Minix to view movies.  Sometimes when I insert the USB, Kodi doesn't see it at all, other times if sees if fine.  Even more odd, if I remove the drive, add some additional movies to the drive, and insert it, the movie shows up twice, and instead of being 2GB, it says they are both 6GB, and if I click on either one, it might say "resume from 19:02", or attempt to view them, but when it seems double, it can't open either.

If I use the ES File Explorer, or the native file manager, I can see the USB every time, and can attempt to launch the media viewer, but I get video, no audio, but the point is, the OS sees the drive fine, all of the movies, and doesn't see erased movies or duplicates.

I have removed the flash drive, both with the Minix running and when it is turned off, doesn't consistently yield the same results.

How can I insure Kodi "finds" the USB drive and then properly reads the directory without doubling them or any other evil nuances?

Side issue, Kodi shows thumbs, no file names, how can I get file names?  I don't need the thumbs.

Thanks!

If my TV shows playback from Shield is HDR10 is it using BT2020 gamut?

Hi.  I recently got a Nvidia Shield 2017 with the new Experience 7.1.  I have a ton of 4k 10-bit HDR videos (I can confirm the BT2020 color space and HDR luminance via codec info in VLC 3.0).

Using the latest Kodi on my Shield my TV (directly connected via HDMI to my Vizio E60-E3 4k HDR) shows that the video is 2160p and HDR10.  If the TV is showing this, does this mean that it's definitely BT2020 and not somehow rec709?  I ask because in Android settings there is no way to set the output to 3840x2160@59.94 with BT2020.  Do I have to drop it to 30Hz, or is Kodi overriding the Android settings?  Also, Dynamic Range is grayed out.  Very confused

v18 - Customizable skin like Arctic Zephyr or Aeon Nox Silvo

$

I recently switched to Leia beta2 as the RC must be close (I hope !) Long time in coming, likely 18 will be around for a while like an Ubuntu LTS.

On 17.6 I had done a number of home screen customizations like vertical (& horizontal) menus ( and sub menus) background, colors, fonts with links, favs, addons and thumbnail widgets. I then found that Arctic Zephyr by @jurialmunkey is much lightweight and luckily my custom settings transferred ...

But neither skin is available on Leia.

So any recommendations for a light skin with custom home screen? Since I have a custom home screen I don't need other heavier skins- use CoreElec JeOS so the whole idea is speed without losing function but nothing fancier.

Will Aura transfer custom settings, being from @jurialmunkey as well ? Is it stable enough for Leia?

Links for candidate skin if not from Kodi 18 skins yet? Use with mouse?

Urgent Help : Unable to install Video Player InputStream, RMTP on Asustor NAS AS6202T

I am new user for Asustor NAS AS6202T. Recently purchased by looking KODI on the box and later find out that KODI support is no more available Sad
I have installed Kodi : 0010_999_1512560310_kodi_17.6.0.R1_x86-64.apk successfully on Asustor NAS. While trying to configure I found out that i need to install Video Player inputstream and RMTP. Unable to found any addon to install both stuff, all link showing how to enable it. Finally figure out to install through Git Browser. I tried installing several version of inputstream and RMTP. Some version installation successful, but when i click on configure button, it will show error saying require file not found. I am wondering if someone can kind enough to help suggesting any addon, which will automatically install both stuff or suggest any other method to install both require. Sorry to say that i am not Linux guy and don;t know how to connect Asustor NAS through Linux. Main reason to decide purchasing Asustor because of KODI support but now very disappointed Sad
May i request KODI to provide addon through some repository, which will be great help for new user to install inputstream and RMTP ?
Another question, is anyone knows what operating system and version used by Asustor NAS AS6202T, so it will be helpful to find right addon through Git Browser.

Thanks in advance!

v18 - Cache/buffering issues. Add-ons or in-built?

$

I have been using cache/buffering/cleaning agents like Ares/Merlin wizards on my Kodi 17.6 and also modded the advanced settings.xml per Kodi wiki instructions (running 1/8 G RAM /flash Amlogic TV box with S905 1.5 GHz CPU.) Still don't know which one method was/not effective !

I have switched to Leia beta2, so what is best here? Any in-built auto manage/clean menus?

v18 - IPTV Editor Windows GUI

$

After going through numerous online IPTV editors I am posting a tired old inquiry. Maybe things have improved recently.

------------
What I want.

- Simple Windows *GUI* based IPTV editor that works with PVRs like Kodi Simple Client.

-Channel / group sorting (e.g., simple channel move up/down), selecting wanted channels and/or deletable channels. Import/exporting in m3u/8 format from online esp. pastebin URLs, or files on hard drive.

-EPG and xmltv info optional but not to be lost while editing !

-one pass testing and removal of non working) duplicate channels would be nice.

- possibly auto updates via say pastebin URLs. XStream costs and is probably overkill for individuals.

What I see.

- See this IPTV editor (Codeplex) update (by same author, from Readme):

(Link removed owing to "banned content" that actually is N/A: I only used their IPTV Editor, which is all gone now !)

...and also here:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/vishutv/

Above summarizes my searches.

The first has good features- but the channel number sorting doesn't work, and no other sorting looks possible. Both versions mostly give random looking errors on files and URLs e.g. on even raw pastebin ones. The one pass testing and non working / duplicate link removal is OK and a good feature (no need for local VLC player.) You can edit channel, group, logo and EPG info too.

The Vishu editor does select favorites channels, cannot sort based on channel number but you can move channels up and down in the list. However when transferring to the new select favorites file, you lose the logos !

So.
Any pointers?

Advice on using Kodi (android tv or box?)

Hi everyboy
I'm new here and I have been ussing Kodi on my Win10 laptop for several weeks now.

I would like to use it on my tv to stream content (movies/tv series) but here's my current set up:

I don't have a smart tv, I still have those old tv's with scart.
I have cable tv provider (DVB-C) and good ethernet/wifi conection.

What do you guys recommend?
Get in the 21st century and buy a android tv (like Sony) and install Kodi on it?
Get a android box with Kodi?
Also a box would have to be a DVB-C digital cable receiver so I could take advantage of my cable/net service provider with scart in case I keep my old tv's that still work fine (I don't know if this exist).

Your recommendations are most welcome.
I should say that I'm from Portugal so bare that in mind as of some options might not work or be avaiable here.
