American Pickers episode naming for proper scraping?

$

0
The TVDB lists American Pickers with the seasons as years, but even if I change the episode naming structure like this:
  • American Pickers.S2010E01.Big Bear (1080p).mkv
    or this:
  • American Pickers.S01E01.Big Bear (1080p).mkv
I can't get them to be recognised and scraped/added to the library.

Anyone run into this? Not sure how best to name them so Kodi and THETVDB can properly scrape them.
Only a few threads over on TVDB forum referencing it but nothing on best practices for naming the files.

v18 - "save this resolution" on initial install of Kodi 18 nightly (winx64)

Installed Winx64 nightly 180519 on win 7 x64 system.  On first run, when user goes to "settings - System" display goes blank for a couple seconds, then a confirm dialog pops up with title "save this resolution?".  I am unable to navigate the dialog using keyboard -- have to use mouse.  If no action is taken after several seconds the settings category window opens and I see in Display that full screen #1 is set @1920x1080p (display's native resolution) and "Use fullscreen window" is enabled.  AFAIK, this has always been the default on a new install in Windows, so why the change?  It seems sure to confuse users as no change in resolution was requested.  As a test, I deleted guisettings and repeated going into system settings.  Using the mouse, I was able to select the "yes" and "no" buttons in the confirm dialog.  But regardless the results seemed to be the same -- full screen (windowed) @1920x1080p.

I assume this is part of the resolution "whitelisting" PRs.  If this is performing as intended it seems like a potential support issue.

Update:  I also experience if I toggle windowed/fullscreen (keyboard \ ) that when toggling back to full screen I get the "save this resolution?" confirm dialog, and again it doesn't seem like selecting yes, no, or nothing makes any difference.

But on a more hopeful front, setting the whitelist and selecting resolution from the whitelist while playing video UI elements work as expected.

One remote to rule them all

I've build a HTPC for my sister and I'm trying to get the experience to be as pleasant as possible.  So I want to use one remote that will turn on/off the TV and HTPC.
The HTPC is a windows 10 home edition.

I have bought a flirc and also the Febite Mx3 pro.  Can these be configured to do the following
Switch off the  TV and put pc into standby mode (default mode for power off)
Switch on the TV and wake up HTPC from standby
Stop the HTPC from recoding to buffer the statin that was being watched when the Off command was sent.

I use a harmony remote on my own HTPC and on turn off I also send a "Stop" command to Kodi.  This jumps out Kodi out of watching live tv and brings up the TV Guide which prevents tv buffering recording.

I've looked at the CEC from Pulse Eight i.e. usb to HDMI CEC but will this prevent Kodi from recording the tv channel that was on when the pc was switched off ?
The TV in question is old so i'm not sure it supports CEC.
What are my options other than a Logitech remote would I have.   Is it cheaper to get a Logitech remote instead ?

Home Screen - Videos Menu Item - & Home Videos

I like how the movies tab on the home screen takes you right to Movies. The shows tab takes you right to TV shows. However, when I use Videos, I want it to go directly to my home videos folder. For some reason, I cannot get there. It currently is taking me to the sources for all three of the above: movies, TV shows and videos {which is my home videos folder.} I want to cut that middle step out so I don't have to select the videos folder. I want from the Home Screen selecting Videos to take me right inside the contents of the Video folder {my home videos}; just like the Movies and Shows tab does on the home screen for movies and TV shows.

Is there a simple step I am missing. Of course, I don't want my home movies to show up in my movies list on my home screen either. What is the best way to do this? I have spend an hour looking, but its not obvious to me yet.

NEEO Remote Kodi driver

I’m working on a driver to support control of kodi using the rpc(IP) on the NEEO remote, it’s in a early stage but had to share it 😎.

Important features are:
  1. Browse through your library on the remote, just like some app’s only this is a physical remote with physical buttons.
  2. Content aware buttons.
  3. Simple setup.

4K - HDR - Dolby Atmos

Hi Guys,
I just finished renewing our living room with a nice Dolby Atmos 5.1.4 setup and I have some problems with my current HTPC setup and I want to get some new stuff.

Current Setup:
TV: Sony AF8
AVR: Yamah RX-3070
HTPC: Libreelec (i5, using iGPU, 8gb ram, ssd etc..)

Yes the TV has Android TV and Kodi actually runs very nice, including HDR support. The main Problem is that the ARC can't handle HD Audio Passthrough DTS-X or Dolby Atmos unless Sony releases an eARC software update in the future (no time expectations ere). Until then I want to get something working.

I read a lot of stuff here but I couldn't find a solution where I'm sure that it fits my needs.

What do I want?
  • An Android/Linux solution with proper frame/color space switching support.
  • Another requirement is full Audio Passthrough support for DTS-X and Dolby Atmos.
  • Best possible 4K support.
  • Booting Straight into Kodi.
I don't care much about power consumption, I care more that it just works.

Cheers!

How about a Windows util that makes it easy to connect with LE?

I've given up after trying for nearly three weeks to get this PC (media server) to network with the LE box under the telly. For the near future I'm going to have to load videos onto a USB stick so I can play them on the LE box, it's otherwise useless now.

I was thinking since it's been sooooo much trouble for a lot of people that would it possible to write a bit code/make a util that loads onto your Windows pc that doesn't use SMB, etc, and is tailored specifically to let the LE box network with any problems? I'm the first to admit I'm not a programmer/developer so it might be a daft idea but it might also be not too difficult and if so most certainly worth the time. Especially since every update to Windows seems to break something.

v17 - jpgs load as black / blank screen on 1 out of 10 pi's

I have 10 raspberry pi's running in my office - some libreelec, some raspbian.
On one of the raspbian based pi's some particular jpgs won't load - i get a black / blank screen.
These are the same jpgs (exact same remote location within the LAN) which load fine on all other pi's. raspbian or libreelec.

When the files work ok on the other boxes i get this in the log file

I don't have full debug logs yet - but can get them later in the week.
Wondering if this Pi has a missing part of installation as i know some portions of the code have been split into other packages such as PVR, but i doubt JPG use would fall into this category.
Other thought is that the broadcom GPU setting may have been switched in the config file, but i dont remember doing that - n not sure if that would affect in this way anyway.

Any thoughts?

Win - 5k iMac (2017)

Looking for tips & suggestions for optimizing video playback of 4K UHD video on the 2017 5k iMac's display.   The 5120 by 2880 display promises 500 nits brightness and DCI-P3 colour, but how to best connect 4K UHD content to these specs?   A list of what I've installed so far...
  1. Boot Camp Windows 10 Pro (x64) Build 16299.431 (1709/RS3)
  2. Updated Boot Camp AMD display drivers from bootcampdrivers.com
  3. W10-x64-Radeon-Software-Adrenalin-18.3.4-Bootcamp-XG-Edition
  • Installed kodi-17.6-Krypton_DSPlayer-x64.exe
  • DSPlayer 4K UHD playback seems to generate extra CPU activity and fan noise, compared to using external players like MPC-BE & MPC-HC
  • Installed LAVFilters-0.71-Installer.exe
  • Installed madVR v0.92.14
  • in hdr pane, set "Target Peak Nits" to 500 and cranked the iMac's brightness up
  • in calibration pane, set "this display is already calibrated" and set dropdown to "DCI-P3"
  • in identification pane for Apple iMac, bitdepths reports 8bit -- shouldn't it say 10bit?
  • The Radeon Additional Settings report that the "Current color depth" is 10 bpc.  Is that not the same as what madVR calls "bitdepths"?  So why the 8 vs 10 discrepancy?

(Side note weirdness: in some menus, the Radeon settings treat the iMac display as an amalgam of two 2560 x 2880 displays held together by AMD Eyefinity -- because there are two timing controllers, at least according to an Apple forum post at https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7523366 about the 2014 iMac, which also speculates this may not be necessary for 2017, although I'm seeing a similar phenomena.)

    Image

Speaking of timing (?), this iMac has thus far evaded modification from 60 Hz using madVR's display modes setting.  If I try to add 24 Hz, the error "The GPU driver rejected this mode, for unknown reasons" appears.

    Image

So now I'm just browsing forum posts and playing around with the madVR settings to see if I can get better PQ.  The detail, brightness and colour all look better on the iMac 2880p display compared to a 1440p Apple Thunderbolt Display.  But dark scenes seem washed out -- the space surrounding a starfield looks grey on this iMac instead of black.  Or maybe I'm unfairly placing OLED expectations on this non-OLED display?  Or is there some setting I'm overlooking?  If a dark scene has a significant number of bright highlights, like a face or a jukebox in a bar, then the surrounding dark parts don't look washed out.  Funny how that works.  Or is that just my eyes compensating for the bright highlights by making the surrounding areas look darker?

    Local actor images??

Is there no support for local images? None of them seem to show up in the GUI (even though I have them in a .actors folder in both tv show and movies which is really just a symlink to a central folder for actor images). If I scrape from the internet actor images will show, if I download and delete the links in the nfo, those same images i downloaded no longer display. Am I doing something wrong or is there no check that local image exists to be displayed, or does it only care about URL links for actor images?

I have searched through the forums and can not find the source for the latest release version of this skin.  There are tons of mods, but I just want the skin that is included with Kodi.  Is this skin compiled right into the Kodi executable?  I ask this as there is no "Estuary" skin on the addons directory when Kodi is installed.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Is the UDP socket used by kodi-send rate limited?

    $

    0
I'm writing some code to forward media keys to kodi using kodi-send, because I want to run kodi from within a desktop environment where the window manager eats the media keys (gnome-shell on linux).

Everything is working well, except that after a while of mashing buttons, kodi stops responding to them. If I reduce my code to a simple "kodi-send -a Mute" in a loop once a second or do, the problem still occurs, with muting and unmuting for about 15 seconds before kodi stops responding to them. It then starts responding again, seemingly about 15 seconds later.

I've verified with netcat listening on port 9777 that the UDP packets are being send and that netcat can recieve them, so this makes me think it's kodi.

It looks like a rate limit - that kodi ignores further UDP packets if it recieves more than some threshold in a 15 second interval or so. Is this intentionally the case?

If so, can it be changed in any way? Holding down a volume key generates several events a second, and if you adjust the volume more than a few times in a 15 second interval, this is enough to trip the rate limiter and prevent further action for about 15 seconds.

Actually, looking at EventServer.cpp, I see there is a maximum number of clients (20), and a 1 second receive timeout per client. Perhaps each call to kodi-send is a separate client, and the maximum number of clients is being reached?

Anyway, if anyone has advice for how I can write my code to be friendlier so that all events are received, that would be appreciated.

Perhaps this is a bug: I don't see kodi-send sending a 'BYE' packet when it is done, that might be causing the number of clients to go over the limit because they are not being cleaned up until they timeout.

EDIT: I see in the log: "WARNING: ES: Cannot accept any more clients, maximum client count reached", so suspicion confirmed. Haven't worked out how to avoid this quite yet, modifying kodi-send to send a BYE packet doesn't seem to help.

    MKVToolNix & Kodi Naming/Codecs.

So I'm editing some of my movies with MKVToolNix, and I'm aware that Kodi auto-detects codec information....

1.) Example: I'm keeping the primary audio track which is: DTS-HD MA 7.1 - that's the exact name of the audio track in MKVToolNix.

When I load the movie into VLC, the audio track only shows: DTS-HD MA 7.1 - [English], which is great, that's what I want.

But when I load the same movie into Kodi and go to: "Audio and subtitle settings" Kodi says: "English - DTS-HD MA 7.1 - DTS-HD MA 7.1"
So it's repeated twice and I speculate that this is due to Kodi auto-detecting codec information. Now, if I were to delete that audio track name in MKVToolNix and re-multiplex, I'd guess that it would only show once in Kodi, however, I think other media players such as VLC don't auto-detect and therefore that audio stream would be blank.

Is there a way for me edit my movies via MKVToolNix so I can view only 1 audio stream in Kodi and other media players? Or is this just something I'm gonna have to live with due to Kodi auto-detect?

2.) I labeled my MKVToolNix video track: "MPEG-4 AVC Video"...under Kodi It's now: "English - MPEG-4 AVC Video (h264. 1920x1080)(1/5)" I'm fine with the additional information being added. However, the other 4 video streams are variations of: (mjpeg).
    -(mjpeg 120x176)(2/5)
    -(mjpeg, 213x120)(3/5)
    -(mjpeg, 600x882)(4/5)
    -(mjpeg, 1067x600)(5/5)

Any idea how to get rid of these mjpeg tracks in MKVToolNix? These "video tracks" are useless - even if I click on one of them the movie will default back to the main AVC track. They don't show up in MKVToolNix--as far as I'm aware--and they also don't show up in VLC, just in Kodi. So.. I have no idea why.
