First, I really like XBMC and appreciate the effort of the developers. I had played with an earlier version a while back but installed Eden a few months ago - it is truly amazing.
That said, I am having a persistent problem when playing back audio. I have all of my audio files stored on another computer so XBMC is set up to stream these files over my network. The computer I have running XBMC is connected to a wireless G router which communicates via WDS with another wireless G router to which the audio file repository computer is connected by cable. II realize this is not an optimal setup for video, but I am not streaming video... yet. By the time I need video I will have a direct wired connection between the two rooms.
My problem right now is with audio files. During playback, especially at the beginning of a new song, the music skips like a broken record. I realize this has something to do with network traffic but I also know that XBMC should be doing some local buffering to compensate, or at least should be capable of doing this. In fact, I would think that the entire playlist would be copied to the local computer in the background, then deleted some time later, like a browser cache - if it isn't there should be a way to enable this via settings.
As an aside, the same setup using either Windows Media Center or Windows Media Player has no trouble whatsoever playing audio.
I prefer XBMC, and I'm looking forward to Frodo, but, frankly, this behavior is driving me NUTS!
I'm running Windows 7 on a five year old hp Slimline 3120n (AMD Athlon x2). Any help out there?
