How to update music library via script?

Hey guys I'm slowly developing a Java program that I would like to release for XBMC, it's very early days yet and probably isn't even worth releasing code for at the moment however I need to be able to update XBMC when closing the program to update the music library. Essentially I'm making something that handles podcasts the way I would like as I'm not much of a fan of any of the major addons here. This runs third party at this stage (I run it via a batch script) so I need to know if there is an API in Java or something else I could do that would allow me to update the XBMC library?
