crashing A LOT lately

Hello.

I run XBMCbuntu... and I love it. I've fine tuned my whole home network so that even my 2 year old loves it, and my 5 year old knows how to use my Boxee remote to get things going between my TV, Movie and then over to YouTube. I'm raising complete geek girls.
ANYWAY
Crashing a lot lately. As it's a 'buntu box, how do I see if there is something new that is messing it up? I am wondering about the new SmoothWall firewall/router I've built and possibly messed things up there, except that it works fantastic 90% of the time, the other 10% it crumbles and locks up.

Any one have any suggestions?

Also this box has been working fantastic for a year or so, and just in the last maybe 2 months starting crashing a lot. It's based on a Shuttle XS35GT - running 2G ram and a 60G SSD. I have it wired to a gigabit switch and it feeds from my WHS shares drive based on UNC directions. (\\thebox\Videos\TV and \\thebox\Videos\Movies)

Any thoughts at all would be appreciated. I hate this crashing stuff... means I have to put down my beer and get up off the couch to turn the box off and on... HAHA.
