Kodi Crashes when watching TV on certain channels

Hello,
I've got Kodi set up with TVHeadend plugin using HTSP to watch live tv. Kodi crashes sometimes after a few seconds, sometimes after a few more (< 1 minute) of watching live TV. On some channels it doesn't crash at all. My TVHeadend setup is working flawlessly, other HTSP clients work without any issue.
Anybody got an idea why this could be? Here is my kodi.log finopuyaru.kodi (paste)
I also have crashlog and stacktrace files, although the stacktrace is unremarkable:

A lot of receivers won't do anything with that. Is this known?

Madnox 21.02.01 Release: Important Update & Installation Guide

Prologue & Rationale:
After a long and winding journey, the Madnox 21.02.01 release has been uploaded to the repository. Keep in mind that some elements and structures had to be moved/changed. The conversion largely maintains the original design flow, transitioning from script to plugin operation methods.

This is a major architectural change to the skin and requires very specific update path. While this CAN be installed via .zip, it is highly recommended to use my repo to do the upgrade installation.

Because of the transition from Embuary Helper to TMDb Helper, it completely breaks if certain add-ons and minimum levels are not in place.

TMDb Helper is currently undergoing a complete rewrite and is changing daily. This matters because the version in the official Kodi repo is a major version behind. A minimum of the current v6+ is required to ensure all changes in Madnox continue to work without interruption.

The TMDb Helper version that is required is not in the Kodi repo and may not be for a while as it is actively being developed. Therefore, I am providing a known snapshot build that serves as the baseline minimum for Madnox to function correctly. This has been discussed regarding delivering other packages, but there is no end date and therefore will be provided and delivered until TMDb Helper officially makes it as a release to Madnox via the official repository. You can see the discussion here:

https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid...pid3186996

The primary reason for this detailed guide is to ensure a smooth transition, as some users may not read the instructions thoroughly or may attempt to figure it out independently. While some may be able to, most will not. I don't want to field questions like 'hey, you broke it,' and have to repeat instructions.

The only exception to package delivery will be the following:
  • TV Tunes
  • Artwork Dump

These two require third-party repos, which adds layers of complexity to the installation process. I have them pre-installed, and you are free to disable or remove them within the admin panel, which most users will be familiar with.

I've also changed the first-run installation experience. I've set it to pre-install at least one of all add-ons and 'furniture' features, simplifying the 'startup' features and enhancing the skin's experience. While I'm aware there are multiple options for things like weather icons, I've installed at least one that comes from the Kodi main repos as a starting point. The files are small and low impact, even on the lowest of hardware, and can be uninstalled or changed at your convenience.

Installation:

All of this requires:
  • Unknown sources to be enabled.
  • Enable updates from all repositories.
  • Bonus: Turn on show notifications (used for Repo/Skin updating).

Install by zip:
  1. Install skin.
  2. Install Jurialmunkey's Repo (required).
  3. Install TMDb Helper from Jurialmunkey's Repo. Minimum version: 6.8.16 (required).
  4. All other requirements will be prompted to install/enable when home screen loads, accept and install them all. (required).
Omega Skin Download Link
Nexus Skin Download Link

Pros:
  • Relatively fast install/enable.
  • zip file can be viewed before install.
Cons:
  • This method does not auto update.
  • Continual manual downloading/update rinse & repeat.
Installation by Repo (Omega):

Note: Repo v1.0.09 is no longer valid and missing updater link references (and it will not see this latest update), thereby, making it broken, ensure to update to 1.0.10 at minimum going forward.
  1. Open settings > File manager.
  2. Click Add source.
  3. Browse is active > Click on <none>.
  4. Paste or type: https://kittmaster.github.io/KittmasterRepo/ and press Enter or OK.
  5. Leave File Manager > Click Add-ons.
  6. Click Install from zip.
  7. Drives/Networks/Repo > KittmasterRepo should be seen among the list, click KittmasterRepo. Click repository.kittmaster-1.0.10.zip (as of June 6, 2025) or whatever .zip is listed.
  8. The repo is now installed.
  9. Click install from repository.
  10. Click on Kittmaster's Repo > Look and Feel > Skin > Madnox.
  11. Skin installation can take up to 2 minutes depending on network speeds.
(Omega installation complete)

Nexus Addendum:
If you are still using Nexus, three items do not install automatically. Jurialmunkey's Repo, TV Tunes, Artwork Dump.
To install these items, use the install from repository > KittmasterRepo.
  • Add-on repository > Jurialmunkey's Repo
  • Program Add-ons > Artwork Dump
  • Services > TVTunes
  • Video Add-ons > TMDb Helper 6.8.23 (if needed but latest in Jurialmunkey's Repo, check there if his repo is installed)
Pros:
  • Automatic updates for both the Repo and Skin (make sure you turn this on in the add-ons settings!).
  • Proper clean-up and installers going forward as TMDb Helper stabilizes.

Cons:
  • None
  • Well, maybe one, more steps to get installed/running, but ensures fixes are delivered when immediately available.

Please report all issues and bugs in this thread and I'll do my best to try and resolve any problems.

Enjoy,
Chris

Kodi 21.2.0 crashing after playback

Hi, I'm running Kodi 21.2 (21.2.0) on a windows 10 machine and I experience crashes frequently. Playback runs fine but almost every time after playback finishes and I want to go back to the main screen Kodi crashes.
When I try to go into log viewer it reports an error: Log viewer for Kodi error
However I found log files in AppData/Roaming/Kodi/ folder:

asucodumaj.kodi (paste)

Can someone please help me figure out what's  the cause of the crashes? Thanks!

Some subtitle addons (from official repo) tend to get stuck on "searching"

I'm not sure if this is a kodi or addons problem, but I'll try to explain:

It happens with some of the most popular addons from kodi official repo. Sometimes subtitle download window just gets stuck on "searching for subtitles" and stays like that forever.  If you click again on the addon name on the left, it loads them instantly.

It mostly happens when it is a first load and subloader brings the subtitles dialogue up, but adding delay to subloader doesn't change anything.

It is relatively hard to reproduce, but if you try a few times, it happens for sure. It is most likely to happen if you open a file with kodi as a player, but even in that case it sometimes works.

I catched the situation when it happened (used one of kodi sample files and renamed it to something addons will see as a movie) and I got the log.

I think it confirms that in that case subtitles ARE downloaded, but aren't displayed and one of the addon devs confirmed that is the case.

Do you see anything from the log, is it anything that can be done to fix this ? Thanks

I can’t use anything instead of upnp

Hi everyone, first post here…
I have mini pc with decent specs making it as home media server
I want to stream 4k remux movies from it into my android tv using kodi
Now i’ve tried smb and nfs with the same issue of video stutter and the only way to make it work is using upnp (but upnp doesn’t have resume playback or video library or external subtitles)
The server is hocked up using lan to the router and the router wifi 6 and the tv also wifi 6 and the they fairly close so network and bandwidth wise i’m good
I’ve tried setting the buffer to 1gb but the issue persist
The movies size is approximately ~85gb
What am i missing? Why only upnp is working? (As i know upnp is slower protocol than smb or nfs)
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated

Movies are now "In Progress Movies" even Though they are Already Watched

I moved my Movie library to a new server and now a lot of my movies I have watched show up on the Main Menu as 'In Progress." Not sure how that happened. But I would like to fix it.

It appears there are too many to just hit the context menu and re-set them. I use a Maria SQL database. Can I edit that and remove that 'switch' in some file?

The .nfo files have not changed so I know it is just in the Kodi database in MariaDB10.

Since I have at the moment no movies in reality in progress, I could search and delete / edit whatever field is necessary.

Hello friends, I use nvidia shield tv, with Windows 11, and kodi, all updated, all cable, I watch remux movies 4k hdr dolby atmos. When adding the folders of my local network, the same folder appears but with 2 different icons, (I will leave photos), I do not know which way is the best so that there are no cuts, when adding by smb etc I get the following icon:

And I also get the same folder with this other icon, this time without adding via smb:

Kodi crashing at stratup on QNAP after HD Station Update

After an HD Station Update in my QNAP TS-464 Kodi stopped starting.
A firmware update did not change the situation.

I uninstalled Kodi and installed fresh, this did not stop the crash.

I looked at the crash log but I don't know, what's triggering the crash.

Maybe one of you has an idea how to fix the problem.

Thanks.

Dune HD Homatics Box R 4k Plus Audio issues with Android V14

Dune HD  Homatics Box R 4k Plus

Kodi v21.2 (Omega)/Kodi v22 (Piers) audio out of sync on Android 14. No issues with Emby, Jellyfin or Plex. Switching to RAW audio is ok, but this introduces another issue: RW/FF cause no audio for about 3-5 seconds and sometimes audio dropouts.

Never had an issue with lEC (V11/ V12).

Scanning issues - Shield

Not sure what happened, but within the past few weeks I've noticed that scanning seems to take a long time or it doesn't do anything at all.

"Scanning movies using The Movie Database Python 0%"

I left Kodi scanning for over 5 minutes the other day and it never scanned anything. All I'm trying to do is add a few items to my library. Haven't changed any settings in a very long time. Scanned the exact same items into Plex within seconds.

Any idea of how to fix this?

Ignore articles when sorting

I have set Kodi to 'Ignore articles when sorting'. BUT: Is there a way to assign an exception to a single title (in the movie's nfo file) to force Kodi to include the article for this specific title  (or ignore the ignore...).
A recent example would be a movie like 'Die Alone', which has no official german title, but Kodi would sort it as 'Alone, Die'.
So, can I force a title to be sorted including the article (for this title only)?

Delay necessary between refresh calls?

$

I use Tiny Media Manager to update data offline and every now and then, like once a month run a refresh across my whole library of movies, TV shows and concert videos (content marked as Music videos), to update the plots, ratings and stuff.

I have written a small utility to force Kodi refresh the data using the methods like VideoLibrary.RefreshMovie. My question is, should I set a delay between calls when it loops through all the items in my library, or will the refresh requests get queued if Kodi cannot keep up with reading the NFOs and updating the mySQL database over my LAN?

I have Kodi remote app working on iOS to wake pc using magic packets, but the Kore app on ZFold won’t. I’ve checked and tested permission, private DNS etc and no joy. Tried magic pack only deselected, same result.

All on same subnet, remotes work fine when Kodi is running.
Android software is F956USQS2BYE2.
PC windows 11, ASUS z790 wifi7 Realtek nic

Any ideas?

Installation issues

I'm having difficulty installing NextPvr on Kodi. From reading the information I learned not to install kodi from Ubuntu but instead use flatpak
Here is the process I followed.

Hardware: Spare parts PC. Homerun Prime. Homerun Duo.
OS: Ubuntu 22

After installing the OS the first thing is install and configure NextPvr v. 3.1. It works just fine.
Install nextpvr-helper
Download the Installer file:
curl https://nextpvr.com/nextpvr-helper.deb -O
First time installation of the Installer:
sudo apt install ./nextpvr-helper.deb --install-recommends
the ./ in the command above is important.
Wait for it to start, then open:
http://127.0.0.1:8866 in a local web browser
or
http://{ip-number}:8866 of the remote system where NextPVR is installed
to setup NextPVR.
New versions of the Installer will be announced here, it is not necessary to download/upgrade the Installer unless a new version is announced.
Upgrade to a newer version of the Installer:
curl https://nextpvr.com/nextpvr-helper.deb -O
Upgrade to a newer version of the NextPVR application: sudo dpkg -i nextpvr-helper.deb
2024-11-05, 04:15 PM
Version 3.1 of the deb installer is now available.  This is a minor update to 3.0 changing the compression mode to xz for old distros.

nextpvr-helper.deb  sha256 3a18d086ea82b528912cb9beffac6d9deead90c9808322e98f446ebd1f136b7d

Install & upgrade information is on the wiki https://github.com/sub3/NextPVR/wiki/nextpvr-helper and please post support or questions here https://forums.nextpvr.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=59

Martin

I installled and configures schedules direct. I used  only channels that work.

Install Flatpak
To install Flatpak on Ubuntu open the Terminal app and run:
sudo apt install flatpak

Install GNOME Software Flatpak plugin
The GNOME Software plugin makes it possible to install apps without needing the command line. To install, run:
sudo apt install gnome-software-plugin-flatpak
Note: Ubuntu distributes GNOME Software as a Snap in versions 20.04 to 23.04, and replaced it with App Center in 23.10 and newer—neither of which support installing Flatpak apps. Installing the Flatpak plugin will also install a deb version of GNOME Software, resulting in two "Software" apps being installed at the same time on Ubuntu 20.04 to 23.04, and a single new "Software" app on Ubuntu 23.10 and newer.
Add the Flathub repository
Flathub is the best place to get Flatpak apps. To enable it, run:
flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://dl.flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepo

Reboot

https://flathub.org/

install Kodi: https://flathub.org/apps/tv.kodi.Kodi

Now that NextPvr works and I’ve installed Kodi from Flatpak I turn to setting up the interface of NextPvr and Kodi.

Installing
This add-on is installed from the Add-on browser located in Kodi as follows:
Settings
Add-ons
Install from repository
PVR clients
NextPVR PVR Client
Install
There is nothing in repository. I’d appreciate a heads up on where I’m going wrong.

Help with kodi 21.2 (flatpak) and kodi-inputstream-adaptiv on ubuntu 24.04

Hi guys!
Some of my plugins (ORF ON and simpliTV) are broken due to some issue I think which is connected to inputstream adaptiv and widevine.
I have the following setup:
ubuntu@kodicont1:~$ flatpak list | grep kodi
Kodi    tv.kodi.Kodi    21.2-Omega      stable  system
kodi-inputstream-adaptive (1:21.5.14-dmo1)

I installed the latest inputstream-adaptive due to the issue at hand.
I tried Widevine 4.10.2830.0 and4.10.2891.0 (slyguy) but I get the follwowing error (from the kodi.log):
Code:
2025-06-09 15:19:54.278 T:16610 error <general>: AddOnLog: inputstream.adaptive: License server returned failure (HTTP error 400)
2025-06-09 15:19:55.429 T:16610 error <general>: AddOnLog: inputstream.adaptive: Decrypt Sample returns failure!
2025-06-09 15:19:55.495 T:16610 error <general>: AddOnLog: inputstream.adaptive: Instances: 1

I have tried some stuff. Kodi runs in a lxd container but I don´t think that the issue is related to this.

BBC News Live streaming

I have no idea if this is the right place to post, I've never written a Kodi plugin before.

This plugin scrapes the BBC News website and offers up all the current live streams available at https://www.bbc.com/live
(Unlike the iPlayer, this should work in most countries)

It also includes the main news channel stream at https://www.bbc.com/watch-live-news
(This is probably North America only... ? Definitely doesn't work in the UK, as the UK is supposed to use the iPlayer.)

Download from here: https://davidcwga.github.io/kodi/plugin....s.live.zip

Consider it a beta for now.
