v18 - Overlays? Scanlines? Custom resolutions?

I'm looking for a way to add overlays for games. Maybe it's not possible. Maybe I haven't found it yet. I like the bilinear filter. That's usually the only filter I ever use on any emulator. I also use my own custom 'scanline' overlay. It doesn't create scanline though. Honestly, I don't understand the craze about scanlines. I never saw scanlines on CRTs unless the thing was on it's last leg. I still have CRT and don't see scanlines. What I have always been able to see is the space between 'pixels' on a CRT. This is what my custom 'scanline.png' file sort of replicates.

In Krypton, I had also edited the Confluence skin to tile this on top of old TV shows. Looked nice.

That's one type of overlay. I really hope we at least get that. I hope we also get other overlays that can function as borders around video that doesn't fill up the screen...which depends on giving us the ability to size/scale the video as we wish. Thanks.

New Kodi 18 keeps crashing (annoying)

Hi guys

Eversince upgrading to the official 18 version it keeps crashing on my Nvidia shield tv after 1-2 min use. Even when not playing video it will crash but when playing video it stutters abruptly and then kodi crashes. I have tried to troubleshoot myself with help of the log but couldn't figure out the reason.
 I didnt have this problems Leia alphas on the same setup. Obviously i tried re-installing Kodi and even tried the the current nighly arm 18 versions  but results are the same.

Errors :
I took a lot of logs and some of the recurring errors i could find are; "ERROR: DoWork - Direct texture file loading failed for androidapp" and , "ERROR: AddOnLog: Joystick Support: Device "Sony Interactive Entertainment Wireless Controller": can't find <controller> tag". My device is nvidia and im not using any sony wireless controller.
Anyone can help with this ? Below are the logs after and before the crash.

Android Box Woes

I have Firesticks on my TV's and I am thrilled with them. Ease of downloading and everything else. Now I am trying to do the same for a friend who has a couple of Android Boxes called Smart TV Box T95) They had Kodi 17.5 on them and I installed Kodi 18.0 with One Nation Build. The second on is another story. I cannot download AFTV News Downloader, so I had to load Kodi 18.0 through Google Play but it isn't the same as the other 18.0 I loaded on the 1st box. This one is Wonderbox TV 18.0 and even though I can load the builds, it is slower. I just don't understand why I can't load the proper downloader so I can get the correct APK's.

Installing Leila

Every time I install Leila, the system shows the 18 screen and then shows a can't support message - and reverts back to 17.6!
I am now on y 4th total uninstall and reinstall.
Any guidance would be appreciated.

Kodi on Sony Bravia only outputs 1080p

Hello everyone.

Im so sick and tired of this TV (Sony bravia 75xf9005), but i have to live with it now. After finally figuring out how to have 5.1 audio passthrough (ac3 transcode all tracks), i noticed that the image is actually kinda blurry.

Turns out kodi doesnt output 4k on this TV. Only 1080p. I tested it with patterns, and when you choose video size: original the 4k video gets zoomed in. 

I think this is because the Kodi App is only classified as a normal "App" and not "App (video).

Youtube, netflix, and the internal video player are all "apps (video)" and they indeed output 4k content.

Does anyone know how to tell the TV to handle the Kodi app as an "App (video)"? Im hoping this will enable 4k output.

Or maybe a patch? An entry in the advancedsettings.xml? Anything!

[split] Installing Leila

I’m having issues with installing The Players Klub. It won’t populate an video add ons and it also says its not compatible with Kodi 18 Leila. Is this correct?
Is there a work around if its NOT compatible or just let my sub to the PK expire?

Switching to Android TV (some questions regarding Kodi)

Hi!

I might want to change to an Android TV (or an Android TV box), because there are better and better solutions for Android.
However I have a few questions regarding Kodi on Android.
  1. What if I exit the Kodi app on Android, can I still control Kodi for example from http and start a movie from there? Will it launch the app again, or it kills the app after a period and I can only use Android to start that app. Or are there any better workarounds for this?
  2. If I'm right, the Android version of Kodi does not differ from any other versions. So I can install any skin, repo, etc... to that version as well.
  3. Controlling Kodi through CEC is reliable on Android?

Problem with big pictures on Picture Slideshow Screensaver

Hi,
i am using one of my rpi as a random picture viewer. For that i use the Picture Slideshow Screensaver. Everything works fine accept when i am using bigger jpg that means more than 4000x2664 pixel and 3 MB. What happen when a bigger jpg shoud appear is that this picture appeers first after 4-8 seconds. The smaller pictures appears immediately. I try this with diffrent kodi versions like 15.2 and 18.0 and with libreelec and openelec and on a rpi1 and a rpi2.
Has anyone an idea.

Two kind of virtual keyboard

I have just installed KODI 18.1 version. Trying to add e.g. a new music, first appeared the screen see "Page style 1.jpg", trying to fill in the information appeared see "Old style keyboard.jpg". 
I do not know how I managed to produce to appear the screen see "Page style 2.jpg" and "New style keyboard.jpg". What should I do if I want to use always the "New style keyboard.jpg"

WIP - Feedback for EUserv media viewer addon (remote storage)

Hello at all!

I wrote my first addon that I use to browse and view media files from my remote storage provider EUserv.

The plugin is based on their API. It can be used for viewing pictures and streaming music and videos.

The addon can be installed with the Kodi Add-on browser (Install from zip file).

The addon zip file can be downloaded here:
plugin.euserv.zip

Please note:
Minimum one full initialized storage account created at euserv.com is required to use the addon. The Plugin itself supports multiple storage accounts.

I post this addon here for public initial testing. I welcome a lot of feedback or bug reports from all of you!

Kodi not updateing the music library

I installed Kodi 17.6 from scratch and now I'm trying to keep the music library up to date.
All files are stored on a NAS, after the first syncing i noticed that many sub-directories have not been scanned, currently I'm re-scanning but the db-file still has the old date.

Apart from that it looks like Kodi ignores exclusion settings from the advancedsettings.xml where I added the following line:

Is it possible that new versions of Kodi have a problem with directory names with an exclamation mark at the beginning?

Resume inside last used addon?

Android - No Log or Audio Passthrough on new Android Box using Kodi 18

Hi All,
Purchased an Android T9 Box. Uninstalled the Kodi that was thereon and installed Kodi 18 from Play Store.
All working great apart from Log and Audio Passthrough. Both worked on my old Kodi 18 Android Box.

Log…. I get an error and asked to check the Log. Passthrough…. On the main Audio screen there is no icon to enable it. When program is running, I press OK and get the Now Playing Bar at the bottom of the screen, and have set the Audio to Allow Passthrough, still no Passthrough.

I have set the Audio as I set it on the old box. Channels 5.1, Optimized, Volume Control Steps 90, Volume Down mix ON, Stereo Up mix ON, Resample HIGH, Threshold 2 Play GUI Sound …. Always and GUI Sound Kodi UI Sounds.

Is there an easy answer to this or is it likely to be the actual Box settings. It is set to allow sound system via HDMI, and Surround Sound on Auto.
Any suggestions most appreciated.

v18 - Music Scan missing 70% of albums

Hi,
I have about 250 flac albums, all have tags. 
The music scan seems to do ok till about D - it gets david bowie, but not david byrne, or not all the ones I have, and then does not do dirty projectors etc... nothing up till a few at the end of the alphabet (assuming it does this alphabetically).
I have removed the source several times, rescanned, rebooted, moved memory stick to another USB, verified the Android box can see all folders on the memory stick using Kodi (browsing FILES).
So I don't understand why this is happening. The files are visible. I can even play them as FILES in Kodi, but the library scan is extremely problematic, most albums not showing up at all.

The debug log I generated is too big for the kodi hastebin so here is a link to the file

Display issues when exiting a video

Hello everyone. Very new to kodi. I currently have it installed in Retropie 4.4. I am able to get videos to play fine, but I run into an issue whenever I exit the video. The screen is either black or appears extremely zoomed in to the point where I can see that I am going through menu options, but it's too zoomed in for me to know what I am doing. This has happened with both 480p videos and 1080p videos.

Freedb Disc Info for CD Player

I have a raspberry pi with libreelec and I use an external USB DVD/CD player to play my audio CDs. When I start playing the disc, kodi attemps to search disc information from freedb.org. When disc is not found in database it shows the tracks as "CDDBX" where X is the track number. Is there any way to configure a local database to search disc information when no entry is found in freedb?
