We were watching a Blu-ray rip of The Avengers, and at a certain point, the audio just went away. I went back to see if I got the sound back (and if it would go away again at the exact same point again.) Rewinding to a point where we had previously had sound did not bring the sound back. I had no xbmc menu sounds, either. I closed xbmc and reopened. Still no menu sounds, so I (assumed I still had no movie sound and) rebooted. That brought the sound back -- but it still went away at the exact same spot in the movie. I brought up the menu and went into the audio settings and changed the audio output from HDMI to optical audio - and the sound came back! Even though I have no optical audio cable installed! I switched back to HDMI and the sound stayed on.
Through more trial and error, I figured out that all I have to do is hit stop, then restart the movie, choosing "resume from" and the sound is fine. At first I blamed the rip - but then I tried playing it with VLC. It played fine. So now I kinda want to get to the bottom of what's wrong with my xbmc - because if it can happen on one movie, it can happen on others.
Help?
