Hello All,
I have recently built myself a HTPC with the main goal to run XBMC and play audio and videos files flawlessly.
My setup is as follows:
Case: In-Win bm639 (160W PSU)
Motherboard: MSI FM2-A75IA-E53 (itx).
CPU: AMD A10-5800K
Memory: Crucial PC3-14900 Ballistix Tactical DDR3, 8GB
SSD: Crucial M4 Solid State Drive, 64GB
AVR: Pioneer VSX-527
TV: Samsung UE40C6500
NAS: QNAP TS112
Connected via HDMI: HTPC -> AVR -> TV.
HTPC is running XBMC Frodo on Win7Pro. All media stored on the NAS.
I have found that my problem is not entirely XBMC related, but as my main focus is on XBMC and i know there are some general video playback guru's in the house, i hope posting in this forum is accepted.
After many hours of configuring and tweaking XBMC, I noticed that videos were not playing entirely smooth.
Some googling quickly pointed me to this excellent thread http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=146911. Video playback improved, however playback still is a bit jerky. Most of the time video playback is very smooth, but once every 5-10 seconds i think some frames are dropped. It looks like playback is paused and skipped forward in a fraction of a second. Just a stutter or two and playback is smooth again. This is especially highly notable when the camera is panning, or objects move steadily over the screen.
All video files i have played (mostly mkvs) show this problem. Problem occurs randomly, so it is not encoded in the video.
After hours of goolgling and configuring i found that VLC is showing the exact same behaviour. So it seems that there is an underlying problem in my system and not in XBMC. CPU load stays under 10% and obviously there is lots of memory available.
Things i have tried to solve the problem:
-I have fully updated windows and video drivers.
-To exclude audio related problems, i have disabled all audio devices in device manager.
-To exclude network related problem, i have stored video files locally on SSD.
-Updated ati video driver to newest beta version.
-Disabled all extra video playback options in video driver config (edge enhancement etc.).
As you can imagine i have spent many hours researching this problem and starting to get highly annoyed. I have over-specced my system to ensure XBMC and videos would be running optimally, but thus far it has not helped![Sad Sad]()
Usually i can find my way through forums, solving problems. But i guess this time i wont make it on my own..
Anybody has experienced silimar problems? Does anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks a bunch,
Nealz
