Hi, I'm trying to work out how to best spend my hard earned cash on a htpc solution.
I currently have this setup.
Nas server with all my media
P4 a open xc cube (ez915-t, p4 3ghz, 2gb) with openelec installed
Echo star sling dvb-s2 system
My setup works like a dream, all network and streaming very fast. But I want to get rid of the external echo star satellite receiver.
-----------
I want to add a mythtv backend into the mix with a duel dvb-s2 card.
Currently I can't install the proposed card into my system because the pcie slot is being used by a hdmi card.
The options I think I have are.
1. Buy right first time, Build a new mythtv system i3 or i5. Atx mobo and decent dvb card or two. (I have quad lnb). This is obviously the expensive option.
2. Remove hdmi card from cube and install TV card for mythtv, then use mk808 android stick as front end. At the moment the mk808 is far to slow to stream over wifi, so may get a USB Ethernet dongle. Does any one use the dongle? Does the mk perform well with streaming local and net media
3. As number 2, but buy something like a zotac as the front end.
Other options I've considered are hp microserver, or premium android/Linux TV setup boxes
I also have a boxee box and a Xbox 360, if any one has any smart ideas. Money and power consumption are big considerations for me but the main deciders are I don't want to be staring at an hour glass when selecting media... Oh and the front end needs to be quite quiet.
Any advice greatly received. I wanna get the right first time and not waste money (previous boxee box, atv3, mk808, old dream box have already swallowed one of my cash over the years)
Budget, upto £500, but I'd be very happy if I didn't go anywhere near that figure.
