I have been using Windows Media Center since the moment it existed (Back in 2005)
I kinda hate Windows, and try to get rid of it a few times a year, by trying various Linix based HTPC interfaces.
The biggest problem that has always sent me back to Windows, is the Windows Media Center PVR.
I was recently using XBMC-buntu 12.2, and was very impressed, but...
Still no PVR.
I tried to experimenting with all the available PVR backends such as MythTV, but none of them would work with any of my 4 different TV tuners.
(Even though 2 of them are alegedly compatible, and supported)
All the PVR stuff also seems pretty crude, so I think even if I got it to work, I still wouln't like it.
(Did Microsoft pattent the idea of having a decent user friendly PVR interface on an HTPC or something?)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyways...
Now I am back to Windows, but this time, I have installed the XBMC add-on for Windows 7 Media Center. http://xbmcwmc.teknowebworks.com/
This way, I can use Media Center for Cable TV, and switch to XBMC for my personal media. (Movies, Music, Etc)
So far, this setup seems promising, but there is a big issue.
When I switch to XBMC, most of the buttons on my remote re-launch Media Center, instead of their XBMC counterparts.
Ideally, I would like to be able to have 2 buttons on my remote that remain constant.
The Guide button would launch Media Center, and another button would launch XBMC.
All other buttons would control whichever interface I am currently using.
Is this possible?
Or just a dream?
Has anyone accomplished anything simular, who I can learn from?
(I do have a Logitech Harmony One, if that helps)
Sorry for listing my life story. Just wanted to explain how long I have been trying to find a solution that works for me.
Thanks for reading.
