PVR backend on my Hackintosh or on a Ubuntu file server?

Okay, this might be a doozy...
I'd like to set up a PVR/cable card back end to enjoy live and recorded TV with XBMC. (Frodo, openelec 3.0, ATV 1 w/ Broadcom HD).
Going cable less would be great but I'm a huge boxing fan and that's the one factor keeping me from doing so.

I'm new at this, so the way I see it I have 3 options:

Run a MythTV backend through Mac OS (I usually leave my computer on for iTunes streaming, so that aspect of this option doesn't bother me.) In this case, I'd buy a cable card tuner, get a cable card and run it through Myth TV. This seems like a moderately easy option.

It's about time to upgrade my file server/NAS so another option is to replace my current OS (Naslite 2) with a full build of Ubuntu and run the Myth TV back end on that machine. IMO this is the hardest option to execute, since I have VERY little Linux experience. In this case, I might be able to get an internal cable tuner card rather than an external for the Mac.

The easiest option, would be to just buy a TiVo, get a cable card for that, and use NintendoTV to stream my DVRs contents (and live TV??) through the Wii U.
(This option is likely the easiest, but will result in the loss of 5.1 because of the Wii U's lack of optical out and my lack of an HDMI preamp.

So that's pretty much my idea on this so far.
Does any method strike you guys as obviously superior or inferior? Am I way off in any of my suppositions? Thanks so much for helping me out. I'm totally new to Ubuntu or cable card tuners/ PVR back ends.
