MySQL and NFS Questions

Hello all,

SETUP:
I have a few questions about my mysql setup which I cannot seem to find any answers for. My setup is a router/modem which connects to a wired linux PC, and a network switch. The switch then connects to my linux HTPC. There is also a macbook, a linux laptop, and a 7inch Android tablet running CM10.1 which connect to the router wirelessly.

My media is all stored locally on a 3TB hdd mounted on the HTPC at /mnt/mediafiles. I have setup a NFS share of those files.

PROBLEM:
My problem is that I have two options:
1) Mount nfs shares at the OS level on each machine at /mnt/mediafiles
2) Mount nfs shares through the built in option in XBMC at that level
It is currently setup as option 1 BUT there are two problems:
1) I can't seem to find a way to mount the nfs shares to that directory on the tablet due to file permissions, etc
2) Automounting on the wireless devices is problematic because it attempts to do so before the wireless network is connected

QUESTIONS:
1) Is there a problem with going with option 2 and mounting through nfs in XBMC on the local machine (it seems weird to go a network route when the files are actually on the machine)? Will my files need to travel from the HTPC to the switch, to the router, back to the switch, and then back to the HTPC OR will the machine be smart enough to know they are local (I'm worried that option 2 will decrease quality and result in buffering that would not occur with option 1)?

Thanks
