Romanian special characters not appearing since Frodo

I've been using XBMC to display Romanian and Hungarian subtitles for years now with no trouble. However, since moving to Frodo, none of the special characters seem to display properly anymore. I've got it set for Central Europe (Windows) under International, and I'm using basic default Arial for subtitles. Subtitle files that I knew to work before the switch to Frodo no longer work. I have also tried Central Europe (ISO) with no luck. I've tried other fonts, too.

Any ideas?
