Sharing a DVD Drive across XBMC devices

I have a Windows 7 PC with XBMC and all my content in my living room. I was thinking of grabbing something cheap, like an Apple TV or Pivos, to stream on my bedroom tv but was curious if it was possible to share my DVD drive from the living room. Would it need to be mounted as a virtual hard drive or something similar?
