Hello guys,
Please let me understand or provide me with advices on how to better setup my XBMC box for music handling or if any of you are experiencing the same issues as me. Any tip or advice here will be highly appreciated.
First of all let me tell you my setup:
- Jailbroken Apple TV 2 running XBMC 12.0 (Connected via HDMI to a Yamaha Receiver->LED LG Smart TV)
- The ATV2 is connected via Ethernet cable to an Airport Extreme for accessing the local network and Internet
- Attached to the Airport Extreme I have a 2TB NAS (Omega ix2-200) with all my music.
The main purpose of XBMC is Music playback and around 95% of my music is correctly tagged.
What I have done so far:
1) I copied 7461 songs (most of them correctly tagged) to a single folder into my NAS. (I had my songs in my iPod)
2) Using my MacBook, I added all of my music via iTunes and I selected the NAS to host the library. So basically iTunes copied all of the music to the same NAS disk but this time in an organized way. I did this because I like the way iTunes organizes my music folder and because I like to have an iTunes library (for iPhones and iPod synchronization). So it created the following structure: Music Folder -> Artist Folders -> Album Folders -> Songs. That structure seems simple and works for me so I let iTunes organize it.
3) Using XBMC on ATV2, I added a SMB source (My NAS) for my music Library (the NAS supports DNLA though) pointing to the Music folder on the NAS.
4) I let XBMC to scan the folder and also update the collection with internet information about the artists. I think It took more than 2 hours.
Please consider that I will use iTunes to add more songs to the library or edit song tags.
Well, after doing this I have some problems and questions which Id appreciate you can help me with:
1) Whenever I select the "Artists" section in the library, it takes about 8-10 seconds to load and show the list of artists (1817 items/artists). Any of you are experiencing the same load times with a similar amount of artists and using ATV2? Is there any way that I can reduce this time? Waiting for 8-10 seconds every time that I want to access artists is way too long. Please note that the same and more load time applies when I select the Songs section.
2) Whats the best approach for when I want to update the song tags or add new music via iTunes? I just added a new album after the full scan and as expected, it didnt show up in the XBMC library. The only solution is doing again a full scan ? It takes like half an hour. Is this a fair amount of time for 7.4k songs ?
3) I would love to play all of my music library (via XBMC) using my iPhones (Browsing and searching through the XBMC library using the apple remote is too complicated) and not having to use any laptop. Is this feasible ? How ?
4) Would you suggest a different approach for getting what I have just described?
Thank you very much in advance for your help. Any hint will be appreciated.
