I've been going back and forth between whether I wanted to do a bigger build and store all the media on the HTPC, or do a smaller build and put together an unRaid server later. I think I've decided to go with the small build to keep noise and heat down in the room where it'll be used. The PC in there now pretending to be an HTPC (it's an old full-size gaming rig) generates a ton of noise and heat that at times is unbearable.
My plan is to win Windows 7 Pro and XBMC on the machine and stream 1080 HD movies and recordings from another computer/server in the house.
[CASE/PSU] IN WIN BP655.300TB3L Black Steel / Plastic Mini-ITX Tower Computer Case
[MOBO] ASRock A75M-ITX FM1 AMD A75 (Hudson D3) SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI Mini ITX AMD Motherboard
[CPU/GPU] AMD A6-3500 Llano 2.1GHz (2.4GHz Max Turbo) Socket FM1 65W Triple-Core Desktop APU
[SSD] ADATA XPG SX900 ASX900S3-64GM-C 2.5" 64GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
[MEM] Team Elite 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model TED38192M1333HC9DC
I believe this build will leave me room to install a Blue-Ray Drive (if we ever ditch our standalone unit) and a Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1250 Hybrid TV Tuner using the half height bracket if we every want to watch some live TV through the computer.
I'm fairly certain this will all work together without a problem and accomplish my goals, but I'm afraid to pull the trigger without reassurance from one of the experts here.
Thanks for taking a look! I look forward to your feedback. If this build looks good, I'll have pictures up as soon as it comes together!
