...at least for me.
I run an Apple Mini (late 2006 model) as my HTPC. It's the first Intel Mini, with CPU swap from 1.66 CD to 2.33 C2D and firmware reflash so it identifies itself as the "mid 2007 Mac Mini 2,1". It's running OS X 6.8 with all the subsequent patches and updates. It also has the Broadcom Crystal HD BCM970012 (older) mini-PCIe card installed with the latest binary .kext from http://code.google.com/p/crystalhd-for-osx/. This card works flawlessly in XBMC11 as seen on this picture:
However, once I've switched to Frodo, I lost the "Allow hardware acceleration (Crystal HD)" switch in Options/Video/Playback (only "Allow hardware acceleration (VDADECODER)" is available in XBMC12) and the hardware acceleration itself, as seen on the picture below:
I tried hard to catch almost the same frame from the movie (and failed), but you clearly can see the difference. The FPS rate is (accidentally) very same, but Frodo rarely reaches this rate in 1080p, hovering around 18-20 fps after 20 minutes into movie, while Eden sports rock-solid 23.98 fps after same time. Also, Frodo stutters with sudden acceleration of the movie (frame drops, I assume) every 15-20 seconds, Eden doesn't do that (as it uses the Crystal HD, obviously).
Both pictures were taken with a fresh install of respective XBMC versions, running a single 1080p file from local hard disk from the very beginning of the file until 7 minutes 54 seconds into the movie ("Inception", if you are wondering).
My question is... WTF has happened to Crystal HD support under OS X?! Where's my "Crystal HD on" switch? Is there a log file I can show to a developer to find out what's going on?
Thank you,
