Lost all XMBC/Crystalbuntu audio?

I decided to get brave tonight and screwed up... like they say, don't try to fix something that works. Anyway, I have my ATV connected to my Yamaha HTR-5063 via HDMI cable. The Yamaha is 7.1 and DTS capable... I have Bose speakers in four corners of my Family room, plus a center channel speaker and a sub behind the set itself. Regular TV via DirecTV is great with surround effects. When I use the ATV a message pops up telling me something about only hearing TV speakers in this mode, and thats why I tried to "improve" my audio by taking advantage of the six speaker units in the room.

So I've been frustrated trying to figure out why my scraper setups are NOT finding any data for any movie I have on my media drive. It worked fine with Boxee and it usually works with XMBC now, but occasionally I lose everything and have to delete the source, shut down everything, and then add the source and scrapers again... although they seem to already be enabled. I'm using Cyrstalbuntu via a USB stick drive and its worked great. I'll figure that scraper problem out sooner or later, here's tonights problem.

I figured I might try something other than the default audio settings and I must have changed the wrong things because now I get the movie playing but no audio. Checked it against DTV and thats working fine BTW. I looked at the wiki and it shows a plain vanilla "default" for audio output device, and I'm showing all kinds of "ALSA" settings but no plain DEFAULT. My settings look like this:

Audio Output: HDMI (does this refer to the wires going to the speaker or the wire going from the ATV to the AVR?)
Speaker Configuration: 5.1
Boost volume.... : Selected
Dolby Digital (A3) : Selected
DTS Capable Receiver: Selected
Audio Output Device: HDMI (ALSA) Note: Should/Must Audio Output Device & Passthrough Output Device match in selection?
Passthrough Output Device: HDMI (ALSA)

That setting tells me it can't initialize a passthrough device whatever that means. Trying a few hundred other options sigh...

So two problems; first there's no way to revert to a standard "default" whatever that was. And second, it would be wonderful if there was a test sound built into the software so you could check the settings without having to leave the System Setting Menu, go back to the video section, start a movie, wait for it to load and play only to find that the setting didn't work so you have to reverse order try some minor change and go through everything again. I have no clue as to how many variables exist that allow sound or don't.

I'm kicking myself for not writing down the settings that produced sound 2 hours ago. And now I probably won't bother watching a movie because I can't figure out what to change.
