Mass deletion of media?

I'm doing a mass deletion of media over the weekend 100+ movies etc. If I simply delete these from the source, hit scan for changes and then clean up library will this do the job effectively? Is there a proper way to go about doing this? Ideally I don't want to navigate to each movie hit remove from library and then delete it from the source folder that would take hours
