Hi,
I need some information and help for my project to build a nice home theater.
My actual setup:
- I have a PC with windows 7 64bits, all my movies and music are on this computer hard drive, and the computer runs Tversity.
- I use my ps3 or xbox 360 in my living room to access my movies and tv shows from the Tversity.
- I use WD TV+ in my bed room to access the Tversity.
My goal:
- I would like to have a nicer interface.
- I would like to get the metadata of my movies and tv shows.
- I would like to get all my blueray disks into one drive, and keep same quality of video and sound, and also if possible to keep all menus and bonus tracks as if I am using my disk in a blueray player.
- Not compromising on ff or rew etc...
My Assumptions: I did some research on the subject, and I am making some assumptions that I would like someone to confirm for me:
- XBMC won't replace my tversity.
- XBMC will still need a media server to connect to.
- Can XBMC access a windows share for playing movies? If yes, why would I need a media server like Tversity if I could only use windows shares?
- I will need a computer or apple tv next to my tv and plugged to HDMI port to use XBMC.
My questions:
- Is there a known existing device small enough and quiet that I can install XBMC on it?
- What tool is good to transfer my blueray disks to a hard drive and keep all the menus and extra stuff?
- I just installed XBMC on my windows computer to try it quickly, but it started automatically crawling for my media and all my movies started showing up on the video section of XBMC. I noticed as well it didn't keep my folder structure. Is there a way to navigate on XBMC and keep same folder structure? I have one big folder named 'Movies' , and inside I have a folder 'old' , and a folder 'new'. When I watch a movie, I transfer it from 'new' to 'old'. This way for my new movies, I don't have to scroll between thousands of movies. Is there a way to keep same structure?
- If I need a media server like Tversity, is it the best out there, can you suggest something better than this?
- If I install XBMC on a computer next to the TV, and I get for example an apple tv 2 in my bedroom with XBMC, does the apple tv access my XBMC that I have on the computer, or do I need to re-do the entire setup of a new XBMC for any additional device that I install with XBMC?
Thank you for taking the time to read my post and looking forward for any comments you might have. Keep in mind, it's a new setup that I am looking for, so I am open to any suggestion.
