xmbc mulitroom with pulseaudio

Hallo,

At first: sorry for my bad english. I hope you understand my problem. Thank you for investing your time...

I´m using a linux-vdr for the last years. Now I want to upgrade my system. While I introduce myself in the new vdr-releases, I found xbmc and I wonder, how I can overlook it the whole time.

Bedise my vdr I want to realise a multiroom auido system for my house. For this purpose I bought some Seagate Dockstars and Raspberry PI. I want to bring the sound from a central server to the rooms via pulseauido.

The goal is:
1. To have my server connected to the tv in my livingroom.
2. To have at least one frontend (Touchscreen connected to raspberry pi or another pc) in every floor, to control the multiroom audio.
3. To have multiple dockstars, each in every room where no frontend is installed to simply play audio.
4. I want to be able to start playback on the groundfloor, and control the playback also from the touchscreen upstairs.
5. It would also be nice, to have a multiuser system.

For example (I use xbmc with a central mysql database with multiple profiles.):
- I want to listen to my music in the living room. So I go to the touchscreen in the ground floor, sign on my profile,
choose the livingroom and start the playback of my music.
- At the same time, my wife wants to listen to her muisc in the kitchen. To do this, she signs up to her profile on the touchscreen in the ground floor, chooses the kitchen and her music.
- In the meantime, I went to the fitness room. Before I go, I sit in the livingroom, so I switch on the tv and choose beside the fitness room to play my music.

I think the easiest way to distribute the audio signal, ist to have a single station to control pulseaudio. Because I don´t want
to switch two music sources to one room. So the last choosen source is switched to the choosen room.
This is very simple to do with pulseaudio and runs so far.

The problem is to have multiple frontends to control the same music source.

The solutions for this could be:

1: The Server is a multiseat system. One seat for each Profile with remote access from the frontends.
I read, that this won´t be able with rdp or vnc, but I also read, that it should done with xdmcp. I try to set it up, but until now, I´m not able to run any xdmcp session. If anyone can confirm, that this is possible, please tell me, and I will try further to get it running.

2. To use xbmc to control one paplayer for each profile which runs centralized on the server. I think this would be the best choice, but I´m not familiar with C programming and I can´t foresee how difficult ist would be to realise this. In the past I whrite programms in Pascal and I would learn C an try to realise this, if anyone can tell me that this is possible an not very difficult.

Maybe you have another ideaConfused

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

Guido
