Hi there, I have been reading these forums a long time, and would like you to check my build.
What I want to use this for:
- watch 3D 1080p movies (so i think that means group 7 ala eskro)
- have 1x2TB, max 2x2TB of NAS storage
- download and run stuff 24/7
- watch movies average one every 2 days
- do other linux-related stuff (so linux is mandantory)
I want
- reasonably low power consumption
- as quiet as possible
- fair gigabit speeds (i do have 3,5" drives that can do >100MB/sec, so >70-80MB/sec is reasonable)
I have put together more options (MB+CPU+(GPU)):
1. Intel DH61ZE + Celeron Dualcore G530 + Gigabyte GV-N610SL-1GI
2. Intel DH77EB + Pentium Dualcore 2120 + Gigabyte GV-N610SL-1GI
3. Intel DH77DF + Core i3-3225
4. Gigabyte GA-A55M-DS2 + Athlon II X4 631 + Gigabyte GV-N610SL-1GI
Please help me choose from the above.
I am from Europe (Hungary), so I do have a limited choice on hardware.
I found little to none information regarding some power consumption and performance of the above hardware, so I do want to ask:
1: Do Intel network chips have serious edge over other network controllers? I mean strictly gigabit lan, and maximum transfer speed.
2: How do intel CPUs fare against the amd CPU and each other, if you have a dedicated graph card? I mean eg. idle power consumption and multicore performance (which i need under linux). Most synthetic benchmarks are very blury about these.
3: I tend to read that boards of the same chipsets can have up to 10W difference in power consumption when _idle_. Is this true?
As additional hardware i already have 2x3,5" Samsung 2TB Ecogreen HDD-s (patched). I also plan buying an Antec NSK 2480 + a picoPSU of some kind. So I plan that the loudest components should be these hard dives.
I am grateful for any kind of information. However, please write numbers, as I cannot do anything with expressions like "gigabit connections are blazing fast".
