I'm starting to lose my mind. I've got 3 x ATV2s with Eden, all identically configured, with files served via SMB from a small NAS and a windows vista server.
I recently added a new drive and re-arranged some shares and my SMB issues started with the windows vista shares. Normally I manually managed the passwords.xml and sources.xml since there are a lot of shares and this has worked fine up until now. Previous experience has shown xbmc on atv2 to be touchy about any permission errors whe accessing SMB shares. The NAS shares work fine always and the server has all the correct registry and security policy settings.
After checking and rechecking permissions on the re-arranged shares and the .xml files I was still getting random behaviour when opening multi path shares, different (identically configured) atvs would find different amount of files, since not all the shares could be opened.
Checking the log you get the access denied errors, and checking on the server there are no errors.
I decided to change from using the usual admin login on the server for smb shares, to creating a limited account with user/pass of xbmc and then applying this to each share, and setting the security settings.
I then deleted both passwords.xml and sources.xml and decided to recreate the sources from scratch. I was able to map the shares via the add source/browse menu successfully. The first access to the server I had to enter the user/pass and I was able the shares fine. The odd part was when I tried to access them (multi path) I was asked again for user/pass which would always fail. How can it work when adding but not when accessing?
I also have a windows htpc with Eden xbmc and it works perfectly with share. Mind you with the admin account. I'll try again tomorrow with the xbmc/xbmc account, but i expect it will work perfectly.
Anyone had any recent experience solving smb window share issues with atv2 xbmc that has any clues?
Thanks
B
