Logitech Harmony 650 + HP 5188-1667 IR... where now though?

This was a suggested setup... I'm running OpenELEC and I have no idea what to do next.
I'm reading a few tutorials online about LIRC, which I have no idea what that means.

Are there any basic tutorials for getting me running with this setup? I don't need extensive control with the 650, just basic functionality is fine I'll get accustomed to XBMC.
