Now that Kodi P… is in its initial stage, I believe it’s an opportune moment to propose a new feature. Many users enjoy listening to a few seconds of the main theme from a TV show or movie while browsing their library—it’s undeniably cool. It requires users to add a theme.mp3 file to the movie or TV show folder. Subsequently, the skin relies on a Skin Helper add-on to verify whether the file actually exists on the hard drive before playing it. Unfortunately, this approach is quite inefficient, especially on less powerful devices.
I guess it would be much better if, when updating the video library, Kodi would check if a theme.mp3 file exists, and if so, then the path would be added to a new field in the video library. Afterward, that path should be available through a new infolabel, for instance ListItem.Theme (much in the same way as ListItem.Trailer).
This would make much easier for skinners to add this feature and would certainly make browsing much snappier. Even if a skinner wouldn’t want to use it when browsing media in his skin, it would be very useful for adding a button in the Info Dialog screen and let the user listen to the theme. Thanks!

(first sorry if my english in not perfect. French guy here Wink

)

I would like to show you a new plugin i have been working on for the last few days.
I find often myself scrolling and scrolling in my video library without knowing what to watch so I decided to build this plugin to help me choose good movies to watch following lists of film recommendations provided by recognized websites

This plugin displays lists of movies classified into different categories. It tries to find these movies in your library so you can watch them without waiting.
The lists have been scraped from reputable sites and converted into a JSON format usable by this plugin. The lists of movies are stored and so downloaded from a server located at https://jlom.fly.dev

The plugin is pretty basic (heavily inspired from the video plugin tutorial). And I really want to keep it simple.

You will find a functional release to test here https://github.com/lbnt/plugin.video.jlom/releases (I suppose you know how to install a plugin from a zip)
The dependencies are : script.module.requests (to download the lists) and script.globalsearch (because my search function in the library is basic and globalsearch can be called as a fallback)

There are already more than 40 lists available. Some categories don't have any list yet. It is a work in progress.

Please test it, make it crash or simply enjoy it!
Your comments are more than welcome.
You can also suggest new list or build it yourself to be added to the server (I can give some advices and scripts to simplify this job).
The json format of the list is also very simple. The movies info are copied from TMDB api call.

Dear Friends

I would like to build a retro games console. I've already bought three or four of these retro consoles on AliExpress, but I'm not happy with any of them. Either certain roms don't work, the artwork for the games are missing, the console is buggy, slow or freezes, then again there are dozens of different roms for one game or it's a Korea rom release and can't be understood ...

Since I know Kodi and would like to have one interface for everything, I would like to install a frontend in Kodi and customize it nicely with widgets and everything. But so far I've failed miserably at the complexity of the possibilities Kodi has to offer. But now that I want to tackle this, the first thing I did was find all the frontends that are available for Kodi. If I have to roll up my sleeves, then I want to end up with the best solution in every aspect and nothing should fall by the wayside during the evaluation.

And now you come into play, dear friends 😆

Who can help me and show me the best way to play games in Kodi and recommend a front end? Three things are absolutely important to me:

1. very stable
2. as lean as possible
3. highly customizable

Dear Friends

I have several Android Kodi clients at home and an smb share on my qnap nas to my videos, music and roms.

Unfortunately I need to update every single client if I add new mediafiles on my NAS.

How can I place my kodi databases on my nas share in order to update all kodi clients with a single database refresh.

Is there also a way to centralize all settings files, that all clients get updated as son as I change any settings of one client?

Do you have any additional ideas of centralization of data in order to prevent redundancy and extra work?

Hello All,

My setup is the following: I have a QNAP NAS connected to the Telekom Router + Kodi connected to Telekom router (both wired 1gbts) Kodi is connected via HDMI to an AV Receiver, then the receiver is connected to the TV. I had no issue so far to watch DolbyAtmos 7.1 4k HDR10 content from Kodi until today.

Now I have no clue what happened, but all items (4K, 1080p, 720p, SD content) stops after certain time. Of course 4K stops like 20-30sec after start, SD content goes for like 1-2 max 3 mins. I checked the connection bandwidth in the QNAP APP, it goes up like 1-40mbtis (depending on the content) as I start the film, then it drops dramatically, after that Kodi stops. According to my knowledge, no updated (FW, whatsoever) happened on QNAP NAS, Kodi, Router side. It is killing me because after sever hours of testing and debugging i can only think it is a joke for 1st of May Big Grin

I am thinking of a network issue, but which side?

I tested and I can stream from QNAP NAS over TV without any problem. All movies are played.
I do not have Router reset, or any other issues, all wired cables are exchanged (not solved anything, so i put the old ones back)
It all content are affected not just high Gb content?

Strange home menu problem on Chromecast Google TV

Hi,
I have been using Eminence without problem on Kodi on Chromecast Google TV. I've made my own shortcuts to my movies, my series and so on without any problems.
But some days ago Kodi auto updated to Kodi 21 and Eminence stopped working. I turned off auto update on my Google TV and uninstalled Kodi and sideloaded Kodi 20.5 so that Eminence worked again. The problem is that I can't figure out how to get the shortcuts working correctrly again.

This is how I setup the menu items:
1. I go into "Customize home menu" and create a new shortcut.
2. I press "Choose Item for menu".
3. I press "Video Library".
4. I press "Sources".
5. I press the Video Source that I have added.
6. I press "Create menu item to here".
7. I choose to Display "Movies".

When I press the menu item that I created I should end up at the movies in my source but instead I end up in Script.Skinshortcuts.

I've also tried installing Kodi 20 but I get the same problem.
I've also tried installaing Kodi on my PC and here it works to ad the shortcuts in the way described above.

Am I missing something or is this some kind off bug?

I am using an Nvidia Shield. I have the SVplayerTV app installed. I read through this https://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Use_extern...on_Android
I changed one of the preset external video player configs to match the SVplayerTV app. After the change, all I get is "press okay once playback has completed".
Has anyone gotten SVplayer or SVplayerTV to work with the android version of Kodi?

Moved DB to MySQL sometimes very slow

I have 2 kodi boxes ( 1 upstairs 1 down) and recently we wanted to share the watched status between both boxes.
Setup MySQL 8 on the same server (Windows Server 2019) thats hosting all the media.
Every thing works great apart from every now and again (~ 1 out of 3) the down stairs box takes an age before you can view the media.

Its just an annoyance more than any thing as in the end it does load.
I'd rather it not though Smile

both boxes are similar spec intel 8100, 8GB ram, win 10, kodi 19.3 both worked fine no issues before MySQL shared Db

Both boxes do an automatic scan on startup, I usually wait for this to pop up as this is when I can view the media. Which is normally ~5 seconds after kodi starts yet, sometimes hangs for ~60 seconds or so.

Hi,

My kodi has been automatically updated on my shield and my old skin (rapier) is not yet compatible with kodi 21. So far it's fine but there's just an option that's missing.
I have a folder of videos who are not in my library but i don't have the option (in the options on the left) to filter on watch/unwatch items like I used to in my other skin. I can see that kodi still knows the state in progress, not watch or watch but I have no way of filtering with this option in the menu. It's a bit annoying.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

when I pews W key, the position is marked watched or unwatched. It works for tvshow or season too.
It seems Kodi looks into a plugin and gets items from the plugin. I don't see any difference between kodi waking and user walking here.
Then Kodi notifies the monitor about update show/season and next all episodes (one by one).
Great, but Kodi need only some IDs but the plugin prepare all data including images. I takes time if tvshow has 20+ seasons.

My question is how do detect that Kodi lists plugin for internal tasks (not for user UI)?
Or better, is any way to provide list of episodes for Kodi tvshow waching mark update directly (some API / endpoint in the plugin or the monitor)?

Customization of "Now Playing" screen

A few years back I used Kodi for my music library (probably version 19, I'm not sure). The "Now Playing" screen was minimalistic, with only the essential information for the song. Both for the control and info screens. It looked something like this: Artist, Album, Track number, Track title. Enough info.

Now I re-installed Kodi again, and the new Playing Now screen has a lot of information that takes a lot of screen space. Like year, stars rating, Next Song (??) , and all the little squares with the technical info

My question is.... is there a way to customize the Playing Now screen to all this (IMO) unnecessary things? I would like to be able to chose what fields are displayed in the Playing Now screen.
I looked at all the settings and the skin settings also but could not find anything.

If the bouncing movement of the "Digital Screensaver 6.0.5" is too fast, even when set to "Slow", how can I slow it down more, please?

Currently running Omega 21 with Artic Zephyr Reloaded (AZR) as the skin and all working ok, but ...
Audio & Video icons for codecs appear on the screen, Audio seems fine as it picks up all,
however for the Video it does not show icon for files that have DV, need to amend the filename

Any skins that do not need the filename altered and interrogate the metedata to get the Audio & Video icons ??

Sorry this must be a really silly question but I'm completely blanking out and google couldn't help or I'm googling wrongly.

I always used Embruary with embycon until Kodi updated to v21.

Now I'm trying the Aeon Tajo skin but nothing shows up when I click on items like Movies, TV, etc.

How do I get the skin to populate with stuff from embycon? I think maybe Embruary did it automatically? I'm completely blanking out on how to do it.

Hello~ Guys~

I've found subrip subtitles with tag {\an4-6} cannot be moved with positioning command where as {\an1-3} is movable.
(set position to MANUAL and enabled OVERRIDE POSITION)
I've searched core code of Kodi but couldn't find the reason.
Is this because of libass's intended feature?
Any advice would be appreciated.
