v17 - Adjust display refresh rate no audio

Hey

I'm using Arch Linux on a T440p laptop with Intel HD4600 graphics and mesa drivers with VAAPI, alsa & pulse audio.
I can achieve audio output with both passthrough & multi channel, everything works great except for 'Adjust display refresh rate'.

What happens is; I play a video and the screen flickers & refresh rate is changed, 'No Signal' lights up on my receiver, consequently no audio output.
I have tried to changed the delay of playback when refresh rate changes to everything from 0.1 upwards 10 seconds to no avail and it happens in all type of films, DD, DTS, AAC.

Nvidia Shield TV - Leia Beta 3 - HDR not working with auto refresh/res switch.

Since updating to Leia Beta 3, HDR is no longer working correctly on my Nvidia Shield. When using the resolution/refresh whitelist, if I play a HDR movie I notice that my TV briefly shows HDR is being sent before the refresh rate changes and then HDR is no longer working. If I disable refresh rate changing, then HDR works. If I play the movie maybe 20+ times then maybe once the HDR will kick in even with the refresh rate change.

Previously I was using Leia Beta 1 and 2 without any issue, HDR was working fine when changing refresh rate.

Amazon Fire TV Stick 2018

Hey guys, last days Amazon announced their new 2018 Fire TV-Stick .. I'm currently searching for a Device, that can handle Kodi + 10bit 2160p HEVC HDR10 Movies, with Auto-Framerate Switching.. I was stuck with the Fire TV Gen3, Minix Neo U9-H, Nvidia Shield or the Vero 4k+. But now, the new 2018 Fire TV-Stick sounds too good for me. With HDR10+ and Dolby Vision Support. It should be "80% faster" than the old version .. Sure, thats mediapress storys, but it will be definitly faster..
All in all, im too ignorant in this MediaBox Subject, so I ask you: Can you recommend the Amazon Fire TV Stick (fired with Kodi), or should I take one of the other mentioned Boxes?

M8S Pro L 3GB - will it suit my needings?

Hey,
i'm thinking about getting this M8S Pro L 3GB Box. I did some sort of research, but as im a bit unsure about Problems that might be under the Hood im not aware of, i was hoping you could tell me if its a good Choice...
Right now im using FireTV Gen1 on a 1080p TV, 2.0 Audio. Very Basic i think. Mainly with Kodi, Sometimes with the Youtube-App, Sometimes a Game Emulator. Video Playback works ok for me, but im annoyed about the poor Performance on the Kodi Gui.

I picked that M8S Pro L 3GB, because i want:
- A better GUI-Performance, faster Response
- A Decent Remote with Voice Search (No Dealbreaker, but would it work within Kodi as well? Sorry for that Noob Question)
- A slightly better Emu-Performance. With my ATV1 for Example, N64 doesnt work even acceptable in 2 Player Games.
- Possibility to use Root Apps, sometimes i like playing around with e.g. Tasker for Automation ;-)

I thought, as the CPU is a bit faster, and comes with more Ram, it would be a major upgrade to my ATV1, improving GUI/Gaming-Performance. Would you agree? Should i consider looking at some other Devices?

v18 - Is Kodi 18 beta 3 Python 3 only?

Hi. No stream was working for me  in 18 beta 3 32 bit (17.4 was fine), maybe because "nightlies will become Python 3 only while the release builds will still be Python 2" so maybe 18 beta 3 is Python 3 only? I had all logging disabled but I got a pop up showing some code lines saying error in line ... inform the developer... Others eg 'playlist loader', no popup but no streams.
Sorry no log and I reverted to 17. Just want to know if 18 beta 3 is Python 3 only.

Syncing libraries across devices

Hi!

im in this situation right now i've got v18 on our XBOXone where we usually watch movies and new TV shows. We also have v17 on both my win10 PC and our RPi3 in the bedroom.

Did there end up being an addon or at least an SQL query I could plug my databases names in to so i can sync watch status across versions?

Although, now that i think about it, that query may be complicated depending on how your references work as IDs will be different  

Maybe i need one system to my the designated library updater and the have a simple query that replicates the ‘path’ and ‘file’ tables so all the IDs are the same...

Android - 4K Upgrade on Fire TV

Hi Guys, 

Currently i am running my (budget) Home Cinema with Kodi on an Amazon Fire TV 2nd Gen. Media is stored on a NAS, connected via LAN Cable. Output is a 1080p Projector. Has been working absolutely perfect without any trouble - the Dream!

I am now thinking about upgrading to a 4k-Projector and was wondering if my current Setup can actually handle that (My Receiver has 4k-passthrough and the HDMI cables will also be updated)

--> i would like to Play UHD Movies from My NAS and look at high-res Photos, also stored on My NAS (all connected via LAN Cable, no Wireless)
--> Is the Amazon Fire TV 2nd Gen and Kodi able to properly display 4k Content? (gernerally speaking, i am aware that thre always can be issues)
--> If not, what alternatives do i have? I definitly want to stay with Kodi, i just love the interface and even my wife knows how to use it Smile

I have looked through the Forum and found of course many Threds with problems, but havent found an answer to the basic question if Kodi + Fire TV 2nd Gen are in general a viable option for 4K Media Playback.

Is it possible to install new addons via web interface?

Like the title says: is it possible to install new addons via web interface?
since I?m not at home right now I have access to my kodi both via web interface than via ssh.
I'd like to test new web interfaces and I read that they can be installer via the addon manager, but I am unable to find the addon manager in the chorus web interface that I'm using now, is it even possible?
If not, can I add some web interface via cli?

"adjust display refresh rate" doesn't work

hi guys, I noticed a few weeks ago that the refresh rate setting doesn't have any impact. I tried a few other Kodi version - without any luck. So I thought I'd better format my PC and install everything anew. 

But still, it's not working. I have installed the latest Kodi beta 3. My OS is updated Windows 10. GPU is Nvidia GTX 980.

I doubt it's my system. Anyone having same issues?

Kodi 18 beta3 resolution issue with 4k and FullHD content????

Hi Experts,

I have problems with resolution switching or playback. I've read all the other threats with Whitelist (I have enabled every option under the Whitelist for troubleshooting), but I still got this problem:

When I'm in 1080p on my switch, 1080p playback work as expected. If I change to 4k, than the movies or even the GUI is stretched to 4k but I only see 1/4 of the screen. Please have a look on this pictures, than it is clear what is happening:

Resetting subdirectory scrapers back to default (of the parent dir).

Hello, everyone.

Long-time listener, first-time caller.

Let's say, hypothetically, that I set a particular scanner by default for my movies (on the root of the source directory).

Now let's say, (still hypothetically, of course), that like a total moron, I manually overrode the scraper for many of the sub-directories within that directory.

Hypothetically, (obviously!), where would one go to easily reset them back to the default, without having to go through each directory to try and find the ones I (hypothetically - honest!) overrode? I'm assuming there might be a file somewhere that keeps track of the scraper settings for each directory, or perhaps a database (hypothetically speaking)?

Subtitle questions

I was very excited to learn about Kodi and I have set it up on my Firestick. My problem is I am disabled and have a hard time hearing the programs. My questions are:

Do I have to "load" subtitles each time I want to view a TV show or movie?

How do I make them work?

Is there a "universal" subtitle generator I could use for everything?

I will be grateful for any help I can get, because Kodi is useless to me without subtitles or closed captions

Hi all=)

I was trying to exclude some folders from my network drive but I seem to be having some troubles... I hope that you can help=)

:

What would I need to add to exclude folder X , folder Y and folder Z from showing up in the "files" section? (the location of the files are on a HD directly attached to a fritzbox)

Need help with video source mapping

So I am familiar with how video source mapping works. I'm also aware that it is possible to manually set up rules. What I am looking to do is create a rule that assigns the video source based on the frame width of my videos. For example if I have a video with a width of 720 I would like that to automatically be tagged as DVD, and if I have a video with a width of 1280 or 1920 I would like that to be tagged as Blu-ray. I imagine that it is possible to do this by going into edit, settings, miscellaneous and clicking on video source mapping. Where I get lost is that I do not know what to put in as the search string. If anyone could help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated.

Solved - Livetv progress bar wrong

Hey since some weeks the live tv progress bar (when pressing I in yatse) is wrong. The epg entries and progress on all other windows are correct. Also in yatse.

Tried to look into the settings and saw that stream chunk size was set to 0 (there was an github issue). Have at it to 64k but that didn't solved the issue.

BTW what's the default value for this setting?

Also updated to beta 3 but issue isn't solved.

ERROR: GetDirectory - Error getting

Hi guys,
i'm  new here but i've used kodi for quite some years
Yesterday i decided to get a clean installation of kodi on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS on the same hardware as before, the only hardware change is an SSD for the system instead of an old hdd. Depending Software changes I switched from Elementary OS to Ubuntu and from a local kodi library to a mysql within a docker container.

The actual Problem is, that I can see the files within Kodi and even play them but when i try to scan my library nothing happens within kodi and the GetDirectory error appears in the log (line 511).

Overview:
- MySQL Database running in a Docker Container, got some problems since i'm new to docker, but in the end kodi reached the Database and everything were created automaticly.
- Kodi is installed on the host, not within a Container.
- An internal s-ata NTFS HDD on the Host holds my media. Mounted in fstab with the following parameters:  ntfs quiet,defaults,permissions 0 0
- no additional addons are installed except for the yahoo weather, no configs from the old kodi were transfered.
- kodi can play the files but doen't add them to the library

Any ideas? I first thought about some permission-mistakes but since kodi plays the files perfectly i don't think that's the issue (or maybe it is on linux that's almost always the problem..).

XBOX - Adding a N5550 NAS

Hi guys,

My Kindle Firestick died, so I'm trying to setup Kodi 18 on my Xbox One. If I open VLC on Xbox I can see the N5550 Thecus NAS SMB "//N5550/", which was also visible on the FireStick. However in the new Kodi on Xbox One I got to videos and add file source, browse, and nothing... there's also not "Windows Network (SMB)" option in the file browse list... so I have no idea what's going on.

All I have in the "browse" menu is:

Home Folder
Network File System (NFS)
Video Playlists
Windows Video Library
Add video location...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

running vnc or rdp server on x86 kodi box

I've have followed this great guide from fritsch https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=231955 to set up my htpc (running on ubuntu server 18.04.1 with latest kodi and kernel 4.17 on an intel nuc NUC7PJYH)

Now, I wonder if it's possible to install a vnc or rdp server on it to access the actual kodi interface via another pc in the network ? unfortunately, I couldn't search for vnc term because the search feature need 4 caracters and I don't really know about X11 stuff.

if I run : 
tightvncserver :0

it says :

Warning: kodi:0 is taken because of /tmp/.X0-lock
Remove this file if there is no X server kodi:0
A VNC server is already running as :0

Could anyone help me ?

v18 - Kodi 18 64 bit as good as 32 bit with old addons?

Hi. If and when Kodi 18 32 bit works as well as 17 (now streams don't work in 18 beta 3 [I don't know if some nightly does]), would Kodi 18 64 bit work as well as 18 32 biit with old addons when upgrading from a now working well Kodi 17? Thanks. (now there are more recent 64 bit nightlies than 32 bit so I'm tempted to try those but maybe by being 64 bit they wouldn't work with my addons regardless if more recent?)
